I work in our government- worked my way up to managing 15 people after I started as a grunt digging ditches ten years ago. In my opinion people need to chill on national politics and focus on what they can control. Are you fixing a pipe today? Are you filling a pothole? Local politics isn’t always pretty it’s more or less a public corporation trying to make a dollar out of 15 cents the whole time and keep bad shit from happening but it’s the best we’ve got, and it’s as good as you make it. You gotta earn the right to complain.

Turning national politics into a culture war is ruining trust in the government. Like said above, if people worried more about local issues and stepping in things would be better.

You might want to rethink that a little bit. Prior to the early 20th century our democracy functioned more or less like a giant bar fight. Not saying things are great now but the level of legal corruption that was outlawed in the 20th century would make your fucking jaw drop.
Government sucks, but my government sucks less than other governments, at least for me and most others here. Improvements could be made but that doesn't mean that it's all bad. The idea of suggesting, considering, and/or implementing large changes or "improvements" based on the will of the people is a relatively new system compared to the rest of history. Being born here at this time is a better shot at life than what most people in the world have statistically speaking. If people think otherwise they should open a few history books.

Politicians are not the people with real power anymore these days, and really ever since money was introduced into politics. People who own controlling interest in large companies, as well as controlling interest in the shadow banking system are in power. You know, your Blackrocks, your Halliburtons, that kind of thing. It is completely legal for these companies to pay any amount of money to politicians campaigns.

Came here to say exactly this, although politicians are generally looking out for their best interests (in all parties), every single one of them. I mean look at Trump. Do you think he gave a flying fuck about his blue collar supporters? Fuck no. He used them to further his own financial interests and they're still on his dick. If people aren't out for financial gain, they're out to make a legacy with their name on it.
Lobbying groups run our government. Environmental changes? Not without corporate approval. Healthcare? Not without the big guys saying "yes I'll lose money". I know this is very pessimistic but it's pretty obvious.

now the left considers anyone not Sanders, Warren or AOC as “not progressive enough”, and the extreme right wants to exterminate the RINOS (and i’m sure the othet 50% of the country as well).

Politicians are the board members of US inc who elect, via the electoral college, an executive officier to suss out how best they can make a profit. If AIPAC can't get registered as a foreign agent, as JFK and RFK intended before they were conveniently assassinated, the game of I scratch your back, you scratch mine will be played indefinitely. The US is not a government, it is a self-funding quasi public-private voluntary corporation, though try to relinquish tacit contracts and see just how long that takes. "We the *people (incorporated PERSONS under limited agency) are NOT at fault for the dumbass partisan divide; divide and conquer has been utilized by the ruling class since antiquity, technology, howver, has perfected this art into a science through perception management.
If people wanted to take a stand, the best way to do it is to leave the political sphere and build your own self-sustaining community,

You are correct that Politicians are flip floppers (chameleons), the neoconservatives are notorious for this. But remember, if you DON'T play, you lose. You see, if you lose the presidential race, you are still a winner, and as long as your in CONGRESS LLC, you will live a decent life and won't have to work manual labor like the plebeians.

If you look at all the hardest working, most brilliant, most skilled, toughest, most honest selfless people across our country our roster is so deep we literally have talent for days. But absolutely none of those people go into public office, which leaves it to the vultures to come in and fill the void.

Enormous federal government permeating local mentalities is what I see as our biggest disease. Media only makes it worse. I have the ability to spend federal government money now, and seeing how it works makes me want to vomit every day. It's 100x more terrible, expensive, wasteful, and stupid than you think it is.
Keep things small, local, and targeted to avoid this.
