Patrol Ski Setups

I need a decent, reliable, set of skis for patrolling this winter. I'm not running any major routes or anything, mostly trauma calls and terrain park stuff but I still need a decent pair of skis to pull toboggans on and setup ropes and shit. Help me out. Also major plus if the proform is nice.

Any and all feedback is appreciated. Especially from those who do run routes. I'd love to hear what you have as your work ski.

Wildcat 108s, BC 110s, Arv 106s, Origin 106s, etc... would probably be a good starting point. Something in that 100-110 mid-wide range that isn't a complete noodle that you can ski any day, or at least that's what I would look for.

Ive seen a decent amount of patrollers riding Volkl Mantras (or Kendos?) at Loveland. Only the 100+ waist variants though. I would probably opt for a mind bender or DPS ski - basicly something light so skating and boot packing is easier.

What type of skier are you - dynamic or the type to just blow through stuff?

I had to chill out on heavier, stiff skis when working jobs on snow. I needed mobility and to make sure my knees didn’t wear out. Something to consider.

Patrolling is typically pretty hard on skis so I’d want something like these shape wise, but I’d rule out BC or armada stuff. Wildcat 108 would be a good pick imo

Honestly a blend of both categories. Off the clock me skis really fast and aggressive/jibby with slash turns and butters all over and yes, especially blowing through shit.

And yeah my first year coaching, I ran a 116 Woodsman almost everyday and my knee did not like me by the spring.

So sounds like you’ll be on hard pack too from your original post. I’d probably pick something in like 98-107 range tbh
Slugging big wide rockered boats around on hard pack gets old. Maybe like an RMU apostle 106? They have pro deal too.

You might like a stiffer ski though and my bias towards skis I like is coming out

If I were on Patrol, I'd want something maneuverable over something super stiff and chargey, you guys do a fair bit of sideslipping throughout the day. Maybe something like a 184 deathwish, or maybe a Dynastar M-free 108 in a 182?

now that I think about it, an M-free 108 would be amazing. Very surfy, still stiff enough to charge on, and according to my buddy who skied it for 2 100+ day seasons very hard, extremely durable as well.
I'd probably ask the other patrollers though, they'll know what to get, and what to avoid.

I personally don't recommend them for patrolling, I used them all of last season and they weren't very durable and demanded to be skied aggressively/in the front of the boot which was challenging when carrying bamboo or pulling a toboggan. The new ones are supposed to have easier turn initiation though so ymmv

My fellow gear-queer buddy who's a patroller rides Enforcer 104's at work. Seems like a reasonable choice; pretty nimble but can still charge, progressive mount which is easier to control when side-slipping/kick-turning, tail isn't so splayed that you're spraying the poor fuck in the toboggan, etc. Also, Nordica has a good industry pro-form.
