BradFiAusNzCoCaDawg I can not believe people. No one is “banning” gas cars. Just the sale. It’s largely spurred by the EU emissions mandates. You’ll find that, any time a major change happens, the whole industry follows because it’s easier to be more strict than more lenient and have to accommodate a specific market. Also, California basically dictates the USA car market. Companies and states can ignore the California mandate but it’s a huge loss of sales. I’ve heard this stupid “California bans gas vehicles” from a few people lately and it’s always a huge indicator that they watch Fox News and don’t push for info past the headlines

yugonaSo what? Whole country is gonna be this by 2050, including a good amount if not majority of semis. Maybe not banning gas vehicles but no longer producing them. Automakers are all quickly moving this way either producing themselves or investing in e vehicle companies. Supply and costs should mellow out by the time this happens.
This is literally 13 years from now. Plenty of things are gonna happen from now until then.

BiffbarfBut real talk, a tesla needs a 1500lb battery to do what 10gallons (~70lb) of gasoline does. When will battery energy density make it so a semi or full size pickup doesn't need to hold 15,000lb battery? When will there be electrical grid infastructure at enough stops to support the megawatt demands of commercial transportation to recharge? These are huge endeavors.
