Monsieur_PatateMy table is from IRS.gov, 2022 data: https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-utl/statement-for-updated-audit-rates-ty-19.pdf
The data in your article is old (2019 article, so probably 2017 data), you can even see in the table I linked how it changed over the past couple of year alone and how high earners are even more disproportionately audited than before.
The reality is that the top 1% today are disproportionately more likely to be audited that the poor, or even the middle class, that's just a fact.
But that's kinda off-topic anyway, my main point was your argument that the legislation means the IRS will go after the middle class is made up bs to fit your narrative, you have nothing to back that up.
If anything, the article you linked also says that more funding would mean the IRS would be able to go after wealthy filers, so it all points in the same direction: the IRS will use the funding to go after top earners, not the poor or the middle class. Your argument doesn't hold any water.
VTshredder69And whats your point? Since the top 1% pay 90% of taxes.
you want to tax them more?
Yay lets take more money from the group who employs the country. lol
That still has nothing to do with "inflation reduction"
Fucking hilarious. Lets spend 500 billion dollars to reduce inflation.
Monsieur_PatateWhy do you struggle so hard to stay on topic? You're the one who claimed the legislation means the IRS will go after the middle class, I'm responding to that specific point and showing that it isn't true, that's all. I haven't said anything about increasing taxes.
(if you want to know, I actually think we should lower taxes given the lack of government programs available, just a very low return on investment for taxpayers in the US today compared to other western countries, but that's a whole different topic)
VTshredder69Lol but you're wrong dude. Nice try though
https://trac.syr.edu/tracirs/latest/682/
LMFAO
Monsieur_PatateCan you read lmao? Your article is comparing EITC filers vs 'everyone else', sure those are audited more than 'everyone else' not sure how that's relevant to our discussion here though..
You were comparing middle class filers to the highest earners, none of these groups are the focus of your article? (and btw, even EITC filers are audited less than those making >500k per your article...)
> Argues the IRS goes after the middle class more than the top 1%
> Proceeds to post an article comparing EITC filers to 'everyone else'
lol
VTshredder69And yes, the plan will target the poor and middleclass instead of going after the wealthy.
Monsieur_Patate1. The IRS said they'd use the budget for 2 things:
- Update tech
- Go after the wealthy
2. The IRS even specifically made an announcement saying the new budget will NOT change the audit rate on the poor or the middle class (they said anyone making less than 400k won't see an audit rate change, implying those making more than 400k can expect a increase of their audit rate)
3. They don't have the number of hires or the exact roles mapped out yet, they're going to release that in the coming months
4. One of the articles you posted yourself from 2019 specifically said the IRS was going after the poor due to lack of funding and more budget would mean they'd be able to go more after the wealthy
My point is: there's literally nothing pointing to them using the new budget to go after the poor and middle class, it all points to them using that budget to go after the wealthy instead. Yet you keep beating that drum without being able to coherently explain why. You're making shit up that fits your narrative, that's all I'm saying.

VTshredder69Lol dude you have no sources though. At least i'm posting actual data.
No one intelligent works for the IRS which is why they don't audit the poor. CPA's like myself work for corporations or for ourselves. Non CPA's work for the government for an easy paycheck. They've literally admitted the tax system is too complex and takes too long to go after the wealthy. If there are no red flags coming from the rich they don't even bother.
That might change a little bit but as of right now you're not using actual sources. Which means it's all your opinion.
Monsieur_PatateI have no sources?
Point 4: it's the article you posted yourself lmao.
Points 1, 2 and 3 are straight from the IRS' announcement lmao: https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-utl/commissioners-letter-to-the-senate.pdf
"As we've been planning, our investment of these enforcement resources is designed around the Department of the Treasury's directive that audit rates will not rise relative to recent years for households making under $400,000."
That's verbatim from the announcement, you ding dong.
Like I said, the IRS directly contradicted you, and yes, I think the IRS commissioner knows better than some random right-wing troll/cpa what they plan to do with their budget. You're just making shit up to fits your narrative.
VTshredder69Lol great idea in theory. You're too dense to even bother with you fucking goon
Oh wow I can post sources too literally going against what you're saying lol. Except I actually work in this industry. You dumbass
https://taxfoundation.org/inflation-reduction-act/
The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), successor to the House-passed Build Back Better Act of late 2021, has been touted by President Biden to, among other things, help reduce the country’s crippling inflation. Using the Tax Foundation’s General Equilibrium Model, we estimate that the Inflation Reduction Act would reduce long-run economic output by about 0.2 percent and eliminate about 29,000 full-time equivalent jobs in the United States. It would also reduce average after-tax incomes for taxpayers across every income quintile over the long run.
By reducing long-run economic growth, this bill may actually worsen inflation by constraining the productive capacity of the economy.
DERRRR

Monsieur_PatateNone of that is relevant to your original argument that the IRS would use the budget to increase audits for the middle class.
I don't blame you for desperately trying to change topic though.

VTshredder69You do realize that more tax revenue means that there are more audits.
You shooed away my article showing they've already audited more poor people this year than previously.
Increase in TAX REVENUE MEANS AN INCREASE IN AUDITS.
hold up, do you even know what tax revenue is? lol

DeebieSkeebiesWhat are Sundays classified as? Storm The Capital Sundays?
PacificRimJobI was actually comparing Australia to Texas - which has a similar population and economic size. I never mentioned Canada - which would be more analogous with California than Texas as far as population goes.
Honestly, I'm not even asking for mandatory buybacks like Australia did... I just think we should make it more difficult for someone to get glocks and ar15s which are popular amongst the pussy ass bitches who commit school shootings and participate in armed criminal or gang activity...
Be a man and learn how to accurately shoot a bolt action or a fan a Single Action Army. Only pussies buy plastic guns.
WunhungL0legend has it PacificRimJob rocks a Mannlicher aka straight pull man licker and Craw_Daddy likes double action down below
Monsieur_PatateKeep trying to move the goal post lol.
You said the IRS would use their new budget to increase audits on the middle class. And it's that very specific argument I'm disputing, simply because the IRS commissioner said the exact opposite, and yes, he knows better than you.
No one is arguing that they're trying to increase tax revenue, that's the whole point you ding dong. You made the claim that they'd get that additional revenue by going after the middle class, I've given you a verbatim quote from the IRS commissioner that this is exactly what they will NOT do, and instead they'll go after filers making more than $400k to get that additional revenue.
Nice try tho
VTshredder69WRONG!!!
400K and below "won't get additional taxes" .... which is also BULLSHIT since the tax bracket has been steadily climbing since obama came into office.
The same IRS commissioner you're quoting also admitted its easier to audit the poor. Low income earners have already been audited more in 2022 than any previous year. So you really believe thie middlcass isn't going to be paying more ???!!!! You've got your head up your ass and you are arguing with someone who does this for a living.
If you're happily paying taxes you are whats wrong with society. i save my clients thousands of dollars a year and it makes me feel good inside.
Good day and be sure TO PAY THE GOVERNMENT
OR ELSE WHO WILL PAVE THE ROADS
skiermanLOL I see relying on social media memes as your news sources is still making you look like a complete jackass. Well done.

Monsieur_PatateYeah, so you're saying the IRS commissioner (nominated under Trump btw) is lying and you know better than him what he'll do with the budget. I guess we'll have to come back to this thread in a year or two and see how things turn out.
I'm glad you feel good inside tho, I feel good inside too.
VTshredder69But you're dumb dude lol
Craw_DaddyClearly your head spacing is wrong if you think I like double action. The only action I like is breech loading, you can ask your mom all about it.
theabortionatorThink about it though. We literally call ourselves "the greatest country in the world" and never shut up about it and our freedom. Invade other countries to spread out greatness and freedom.
Hard to be like "Well El Salvador has a hire murder rate than the US".
I don't think that really matters much. There are a lot of countries in the world, a lot of issues. Saying hey that countey over there has a bigger problem then us isn't a great reaction to anything happening here ever. If we're the greatest country that is or whatever.
