Planning on doing park crew at my local mountain. Who's done it and how did you like it?

I'm planning on working on the park crew at my local mountain this upcoming season and wanted to hear your guys' experiences. I've heard that you get to ski a lot, rake the jumps and lips a couple times every day, and a couple times a week you build features. It sounds like fun to me, plus the park at my local mountain isn't huge. Thanks 👍

I'm curious about it myself, They say its Hard Work and you gotta be out there on those days when you normally would stay home if the weather isn't what you want to ski in that day.

Luckily I'll only be there on weekends, so I won't be wearing ski boots all week 😂

I really don't mind the ski boots... job looks like fun though and I'd only be doing it part time on the weekends when I'm not in school. Also I really want one of those sick Park Crew jackets lol

I would buy snowboard boots just to wear them, they look so much more comfortable and are probably warmer.

If you do a morning rake before opening just wear normal winter boots instead of ski boots. Then just swap to ski boots after that.

I should just sell my park crew jackets. Then people can rep without working.

Park crew is sick though. If you're down to actually work sometimes and not complain everytime you need to rake or fix something it's not that bad. It can be a lot of work but also super chill.
You have a lot of power to make your park sick.

Depends on the place and the park location. A lot of places you have to ski/snowboard to get around. That said I have worked places where you could walk up or rode a lift and walk down with parks running to the base area.

Thanks, I'm never opposed to working since the pay is pretty good and I get to ski, way better than the ticket scanning gig my friends are doing imo.

Don't complain about doing work or let others that don't want to do work stop you from doing work.
Not sure how it is other places but where I've worked only 1 or 2 guys are on a shift, no supervisor, so you actually have to motivate yourself and others to work.
Don't wear ski boots to park sets, I did this for a season and it sucks, not because comfort but because you sink in soft snow and it's hard cleaning up your footprints.
Don't stand on the rakes, they bend.

Depends on the mtn but yeah some places. Especially the bigger park programs with sponsored stuff. Makes sense honestly. Companies can deck out the park crew with their brand, and then thats what the "cool" people are wearing or whatever.
But i realized i honestly don't know what to do with old park jackets. Can't really wear em. I did wear my old tline one sometimea at work at in the winter at another mtn but it just says lark crew and the timberline fell off.

Not insanely common though. A lot of places its like a usual uniform. Every few years they might buy new stuff and get rid of the old, but generally places want their stuff back.

Is there any sort of 'dress code' in your experience?

Park Crew dudes always have their own sorta swag, but I feel like I'd expect them to be in baggier gear if allowed to choose their own sizing. Do resorts make you wear clothes specific to your size or do they cap you at like a Large? Or is it just annoying to be working in huge stuff?

Depends. Some places are weird but generally allowed to be a lil baggy. Also though if theres limited sizes im taking that 2xl and ill foght someone who rocks a medium trying to grab it.

Sometimes they ask sizes and order, sometimes its what they have, sometimes they put in a big order and you grab something that fits close enough.

i enjoyed park crew, the aspects i didn't like were mostly related to it being a vail owned mountain. it's fun to interact with the riders and be able to take suggestions and actually change subtle things around, especially if you are a somewhat skilled rider and can pick up on stuff being off.


it can also be very boring at times. im not one to glorify pot, but, yeah. pot.
