b0ssIm moving to kirkwood employee housing this fall. Anyone care to show me around some freeride terrain?
Hope to see you on the mountain! I've only got a couple seasons at kirkwood under my belt but here are some tips:
-The figure 8 of amazing freeride terrain: Chair 10 > eagle bowl / norm's nose, up chair 2, then up chair 4, then down to devils corral (hell's delight or any of the other double blacks) will take you all the way back to chair 10. Rinse and repeat. On days when all the other pow is ruined, that ridge down to devil's corral from chair 4 or vista always seems to have the best snow by far.
-On pow days they open the mountain pretty predictably usually. Chair 6 usually opens first, also chair 6 will pretty much always have pow depending on how hard you want to work for it. The traverse can be brutal and I usually don't make it past Palisades bowl. It's not really worth it to try and make it any further. Then they'll open chair 10. Then eagle bowl. Then if you're lucky they'll open chair 4. They are the slowest and least reliable to open chair 4. Lucky because either- you're one of
those people who think that's the best terrain on the mountain (it's not, but it is still fun), OR, you will have the rest of the mtn to yourself because all the jerries head there. Either way, it's good news. It's a game of being at the right place at the right time.
-imo Sentinel is the best groomer on the mountain when it's a groomer. Also devil's draw on the backside for maximum speed.
-Cheapest beer at Red Cliffs lodge
Should be easy to find you favorite spots if you branch out from there. Have fun!
