RparrThe first time I went to Oregon in 2016, the way somebody explained it to me was that self-pumping was not allowed in towns of over a certain population level. I think I was told 30,000. Not sure about now though

Trumpkin2024I didn't even know this was still a thing til I visited Oregon last year. I haven't seen a non self serve pump since 2001. I was so confused the first gas station I stopped at....so awkward.

I'm looking at Bend/working at Bachelor primarily, what is the scoop on living out there? How are the locs and what are some do's and dont's that may not be as obvious to ppl who didn't grow up there?

LonelyI've been looking recently and tbh bend is about as expensive as any mid to large sized city anywhere else. Rent in general is just expensive.

Even places like Marquette, MI are in the ballpark of 900-1400 for a single bedroom.

I know some younger folks are probably doing okay..........but I do feel sorry for the youngers now.
Bend is a cool place. Lots to do. Just bring the $$$!

I live out of the city, and I love it here, 23 years now. I do miss having some serious curvy roads around where I live like I used to have back in the Santa Cruz costal mountains, but I'm dealing with it okay.

LonelyYeah definitely sucks a bit. I work a good job that pays me well above minimum wage and includes bonuses, but the only way I can really swing this is by having a roommate lined up. Fortunately for now, I do. I could still afford not having a roommate, but then very little would be going into savings.

Sucks to have to choose between the two, but ya just gotta do what you can do. It's very annoying to see that every apartment or house for rent has gone up in price by 25-30% in the last year...when all that really changed is the apartment got a year more of wear and tear.

But if all things go well and I make it out there you and @OregonDead and I will have to rip bachelor this winter. Watching your vids has got me stoked

HammyslapwagonsI'll be moving to Bend for a year...maybe two at most. Depends how the housing market looks in a year.

Any of you folks ski backcountry around Bend? It looks like Tumalo is the go to spot for shorter day trips. And the sisters/broken top for multi-day trips. Stoked to ski Bachelor this winter too. Looks like a fun mountain.

HammyslapwagonsAll good. Definitely looking to ski at least one of the sisters before I leave. Not used to the long approaches though. Most of the stuff around me is pretty much straight up and straight down. We don't have a ton of those long approaches that go for miles.
