Mo pros snowmobile rack

Do yall just jerry rig shit together to carry skis into the backcountry? Im trying to manufacture a rack for a sled I'm acquiring early season, has anyone made one or bought the premium? Advice?

If you access to a mill and can get some aluminum stock, I wouldn’t bother with the mo pros rack. Just careful how you mount it or if you even can mount it. Lots of newer sleds have the heat exchanger going all the way up the tunnel extension.

the hot and shreddy bag tho. I think that’s worth every penny

I did this one at the end of the season. I think it cost me $40 in material. Bought stock L- aluminum for the mount to the sled. My buddy had some stock sheet aluminum that was around 1/8" that I cut out for the ski holders. got some aluminum rods and tapped them and counter sunk some small screws through for lateral support. 3D printed the spacers for the ski holders and put some titan straps through. The rest is just nuts and bolts. I can't say it works well cause I haven't tested it yet. Pretty much copied a rack my buddy bought for $350.

The guy that owns Mo Pro is a total kook. The first round of bags were complete trash because he used the cheapest materials and factory. The second round of bags are better, but both my wife and my hot n shreddies are ripping after the first season. The actually rack is really good, but a little pricey.

after putting some more thought, i think it also depends on your sled.

if you have a new $20k sled, i think its worth it.
if you have a clapped out yamaha phazer with a long track, home made tunnel extension and bars that go past your eyes, dont bother.

is that too obvious?

Depends how handy you are at making things out of metal. Don't be a sister and make a wooden rack. Just buy a proper rack.

Backcountry bolt ons is a homie of mine he makes quality racks.

This but also theres cheaper and more reliable options on the market than MoPros. PowTech Mfg. makes the best rack IMO, sturdy, simple, and easy to fix design. I switched to a 2021 PowTech Expert this year after DIY then several years of MoPros and my rack was the only one to survive a 2000 mile season out of my sledski group. I had to toss some extra washers and locktite on every now and then, but I generally fared much better than my MoPros buddies who all lost straps and other critical hardware

I ran a CFR rack for many many years with no trouble ever.

Survived it all. Used their 'blades' aka tunnel stiffeners.

I have a MoPros rack sitting in a box all last winter... Never put it on my sled. Was a little Sus about the tunnel strength of the new Matryx, and I'm basically more of a sledneck anymore anyway. I'll probably put it on this year.

Messed that up sorry in summer mode. Backyard bolt ons homie Dustin makes a fine ass product. Honestly all the racks out there are just as good as the other ones they will break if you abuse them and they will last for years if you treat them nice.

Most I've seen break because people will try and floor heir aled while leaving their Aki's strapped in. Or they will strap a shit ton of camera gear or boots on and bend the bars and then blame the rack but just treat your gear proper.

I don't know him well but every time I've met Dave he's super nice. Seems like a good guy.

A lot of folks have had the opposite experience. I’d avoid MoPros just based on the guys reputation.

The one thing about ski racks for mountain sleds is you really should build them in a way that the rack will break before your skis or tunnel. Also you really should only use them when your just riding pretty gently on your way to the zone your gonna ski, and them strap them too your pack. My first day sled skiing a few days ago I managed to break my brand new wildcats in half after about 15 minutes of riding in deep soft snow with my skis straped to a cfr rack, didn’t hit a tree or anything. So at the very least be warned, it’s pretty easy to break your shit using a rack.

It's not easy, you flipped your sled with your skis still strapped in.

Na definitely didn’t flip the sled, trenched and stuck once but all I needed was a ski pull to get out and the skis were in one piece then, my best guess is while I was sidehilling over to get across the valley the tips caught on the snow and somehow got levered with enough force to snap them. All I’m saying is just be careful with ski racks on sleds, it’s pretty easy for shit to get fucked up

This. I've heard he's been trying to shit down CFR and backyard bolt ons because he thinks he trademarked the sled rack. Dude sounds like a bit of a dipshit. Can't give people like that money.

I won't go into detail but I had what I thought was a bizarre experience with these people. Gonna stick with CFR, great products and track record.

I guess you never have to flip your sled 😜, that rack looks like a hazard.

We try not to flip as much as possible but they have been rolled with the racks and skis and all have made it out okay 😅 definitely a war pig.

Bringing back this thread. I’ve had a mopros and a couple homemade racks. Does anyone have a good system for storing boots and skis for sled skiing? I did mopros and put boots in a BCA tunnel bag. Kept boots warm with handwarmers. Boots wers very tight in the BCA bag.

Got a new sled for the season so starting from scratch

I’ve never used the hot and shredded bag but I really really really want one. Just so darned expensive.

I just strap in a north face duffle bag through the linq brackets. It carries two boots, first aid and lunch.

It’s subjective, but I don’t like the look of a rack. I get that people like to take ‘em off but I don’t take a sled out just to sled.

you also have the trick of warming up your shells with exhaust.

Powtech MFG has the best rack by far and they are manufacturing sled skiing boot bags for next season that will fit perfectly into the rack. They've also got a 15% off discount on the website if you use "LETITSNOW". So after looking at all these racks I decided to make my own for the 3rd time cause I think $600 is ridiculous for these simple laser cut machined pieces of metal. I sent in some CAD models to get laser cut, got some round stock from a buddy, and ordered some UHMW plastic stock off ebay which i plan to jigsaw out. Waiting for stuff to get here in the mail and I’ll post photos of it when it’s all assembled. Here’s photos of the cad model I sent in. Costed $140 to get laser cut and bent for two pieces. I used sendcutsend. If anyone wants to order one lmk and I can send my .dfx file. Planning on making a few for buddies if it works out. Total cost for everything was around $200.

I usually bring a bag of zap straps and a pair of side cutters with me. Saves a lot of money in the long run!

Will definitely be dumping the skis if i just want to sled. Bigger respect to mopros and other companies after making this. They are hard to make durable.
