Cant do any flips

I am super frustrated because the last few days I have been trying to convince myself to do a backflip. I am a very good skier and can do any rail/hit any jump with a 3. I have backflips on ground and can gainer off something high very easily. I just cannot commit to the backflip on airbag. It’s not the I am scared it’s just that my mind won’t let me lock in and do it. Any tips?

Why do you think you feel fear? Is it the added weight of skis on your feet? Just pop hard then hump the air! If it's the speed aspect, find a pretty vertical jump that you don't need as much speed for. Try it into some powder or soft slush

idk backflips are overated.

i get it, they look cool, but a friend of mine who has only been skiing for three years can stomp them. like he cant ride moguls, or carve really for that matter, but he can backflip. so dont feel pressure like ill be good at skiing if i can backflip.


i usually just get mad at myself and let that frustration grow. anger brings the physco out from within.

I don’t think feel very much fear about it I just can’t go brain dead for 10 seconds like I do with 360s. Just can’t commit. The jump is really poppy and perfect but my brain just can’t commit.

Try picking a cloud or tree or something above you to aim for off the take off. Then keep looking back. I don't know what else to tell you if you say you know how to do em and don't have the fear. Backflip on skis has got to be the easiest of all backflips there are

Go hollow head. Hype yourself up as much as possible at the drop in and then dont think about it. If you can flat ground backie you have it for sure, and on an airbag youll be fine if you over rotate to your back

huck and pray if you already know how to do a backflip on the ground then skis is light work, find a jump that has good kick and send it, you might crash, but the chances are you will be fine, first attempts are always pretty crappy.

Just think that you won't stop after you learn how to flip without any steezy grabs cuz then that's a stonk go bad kinda investment. In the future my flying friend find the you that's not just pullin babes but also backies with big blunt and juicy japan grabs. Also, birdup

Find a 10-25 ft jump and just send it. Helps if ur skiing with someone else or if you call the best person in the park over to hype you up/film. Peer pressure. Also make sure to keep ur legs and hips strong as it will feel like there are weights on your feet. Also keep in mind the length of ur skis and not catching ur tips. I landed my first every attempt so don’t be nervous especially since I’ve only been skiing 2 seasons and I’m kinda a noob, so you’re defo more skilled. chances are you’ll either stomp or land it. Also how are u skiing rn?

Yeah just hit the airbag because if you are skiing right now, you have access to an airbag. If you can’t learn a trick with an airbag and summer snow well I don’t know if there’s any hope left .

Agreed. I can barely flip on tramp but I can on snow, so forget how to flip anywhere.

Mental block. You can research it, but the main thing is that your brain thinks the backflip is stressing you out too much so it's preventing you from doing it (to protect ur health idk). Peer pressure or not giving a shit helps

Just go for it if you can do backflip on ground you have it easy. Build a jump in powder and just do it. Be with some friends that hype you up and just send it

ive got a friend that goes on family ski trips every year typa thing, and all he ever talks and brags about is being able to backflip on skis and posts videos of it all the time. the dude rides like 153s, wears a bills jersey over his jacket, and rides like a complete gaper but thinks he’s hot shit cause he can backflip.

no hate to anyone that can backflip on skis, but if you can backflip on flat ground and work up the balls, i don’t doubt you can do it on skis. i wouldn’t get too worked up about being or not being able to do it.

I'm closer to backfliping on skis than on a trampoline. I can get to my face on skis but only my neck on trampoline. That's probably only because of speed though I think I have a mental block that stops me upside down.

My conclusion I'm just going to go to wild mountain when the jump is first built so it's soft then go off the biggest one so my momentum carries me through my block

My first couple backflips I set like you would a flat 3 but it was more of a backflip rotation. I hated the idea of going straight back so I threw it like this until I got over the fear aspect of it.

I have backflips and cork 7s down on tramp, but don't know how well I can transfer onto snow. I don't want to spend 300bucks on tramp skis, can I just wear my skis into the tramp lol? (to get use to weight + grabs)

the most i'd consider on that front is maybe some ankle weights that are roughly the same weight as your skis/boots/bindings

backflips are easy and the trick comes around super naturally thanks to the jump (imagine a noob hitting a jump out of control, they're most likely going to get their feet kicked out from under them as opposed to falling forward) but it feels different on skis because of the considerable weight on your feet. getting used to that will probably help

So what piece of advice unsealed it for you?

Looks like a pretty small jump and you had to commit hard to make it. You are arched nicely as the heels are off the lip but the tails are still on the lip. Seems to me the trick now is going to be mellow out the commit on bigger jumps some so you don't over rotate. Don't get me wrong given the size jump, speed, air you have to do EXACTLY what you are doing, maybe that's why you had the mental block? There's no extra time to let it sail on a jump that size.

Learn to find an excuse and use it to the max. Friend ask you if tou can flip? Naah brah, broke my toe climbibg last year, i would flip if i wouldn’t be scared to get toebang, if i do i might get a paralyzed foot, and that would not be too gangster would it?
