Share Your Craziest At Work Story

I work as a tile setter in the summer which helps me pay for skis/boots/food/trips etc. Spend most of my days remodeling homes and small businesses.

This particular day we just got done finished setting the front of a home right next to Seven Springs.

*If you don’t know anything about tile work, putting tile on the outside of you house in Pennsylvania is just ab the dumbest thing you can do. It cracks and looks like shit after a short while due to the shitty weather.

Anyway, the front of this house is finished and about an hour before we plan on being done for the day the weight from the tile causes the support beam running from one side of the house to the other to sag which is holding up the whole front end of this house. All the tile from this beam falls off right in front of the homeowner. If it would have landed on this lady there probably would have been a lawsuit that put us out of business but we lucked out. I’ll never forget the look on the woman’s face. Kinda what you get when you don’t incorporate the immense weight pulling this beam down in the plans for the house.

I was ringing a dude up at the golf course and he was deaf so we had to communicate through typing stuff into an iMessage box. Dude was actually cool as hell and had a good sense of humor. Made me want to learn more about sign language. First time I’ve ever had an encounter with someone like that.


Out on the road for work the other day and watched 2 road raged crackheads hop out of their cars and start whaling on one another in the middle of a busy intersection. Held up traffic for a good half mile until cops got there. It was funny because the fat barefoot lady demolished the skinny bald methhead and cars/ huge triaxles we’re just driving by them since their lights were green.

Not that crazy but when I worked I backed 16 wheeler into loading door with lift gate up which destroyed the door with violence, 10mins later I was arguing with employee how breast feeding is natural.

used to work at a fancy horse place on grounds crew with a bunch of mexican hillbillies which was hilarious cause this place was all spoiled white girls. there was this big sprinkler/fountain in the middle of the lake that broke so these two guys get into this crusty little boat that has a decent leak in it and start rowing out to the middle,
with a fucking pitch fork and a broken snow shovel.
about half way out they start bailing water with a yogurt cup while yelling at each other in spanish. dont think they were even able to fox the thing. some of the funniest shit i have ever seen.

another time one of the guys was harrowing an arena and was taking a little longer than usual and this fat old lady wanted to ride and yells something along the lines of do you get paid by the hour and something racist. somehow over the tractor buddy heres her and looks her dead in the eyes and then proceeds to do the whole arena again

Just working a normal morning at the bike shop and some crackhead comes in, claiming he identifies as a "Chickenhawk" (whatever the hell that is) and takes a 24 inch kids bike for a lap around the block to demo. After almost dying multiple times, he picks some flowers and gives them to one of my female coworkers (who promptly throws them in the trash as soon as his back is turned. After some deliberation, mostly realizing he definitely cannot afford the bike, he asks me to get in his truck and go gold panning. I respectfully decline, but he yells at me to get in his truck. Unsure what to do, I look to one of the senior mechanics for help, and he calmly reaches into the employee's drink fridge and grabs a coors lite and gives it to the dude. He then eagerly leaves, emphasizing that he's going to put the drink in the back seat while he drives, and then as soon as he pulls out of the lot we could clearly see him reach back for the cold one.

What a crazy morning.

Severed my big toe off with a flymower about 3 years ago. Made some decent workers comp however. I don't like having a perma-fucked foot however because my left foot is a shoesize smaller

When I was oil drilling, we used to joke that the site we were on must have been an indian burial ground with how many things were going on. But I’d say the craziest was when the blowout preventer/casing cement testing truck finished the job, as it was driving off site it fucking exploded for whatever reason. Fire department came and just hosed down the fuel thank to keep it cool enough to not detonate the diesel inside i guess. Idk many crazy stories but thats top of my head

My toenail stayed intact which is the wildest part. The blade cut me from the bottom of the foot up so that'll explain that i guess. Since my toe is smaller, my nail actually grows to be gnarly so i have to trim it a bunch. Ladies hmu if you're good at pedis

I should definitely clarify that my toe was surgically repaired and reattached. I still have loss of feeling and sensation as well as the bone itself got shattered to smithereens, so range of motion is gone and it's stiff as hell. I have honestly not noticed anything different besides cold days making it hard to ski due to my toe pulsating and shit. It's weird. I've also yet to ride a mountain bike since then so I'm eager to see what happens this summer. It'll sometimes twitch and I can feel the nerves tingle in the worst way sometimes. Its so fuckin weird

One time I was changing a patients socks and when I took the sock off, their toe came with it. It was a necrotic toe and they were waiting for surgery, turns out they waited a little too long lol.

I saw one of our shop cats dead as disco this morning so that takes the cake for craziest work story. RIP homie. Outdoor cat life is a bitch sometimes you know. They get got in the worst ways.

One time our workplace flooded with sewage. They were doing construction on a building next-door, hit a pipe and apparently the result was shit-water coming up through our floors until it was about 2 in deep.

I can still smell it when I think about it

They had no idea it happened and seemed unbothered by it. They had untreated/uncontrolled diabetes for decades and haven’t had any feeling in their feet in years as well. So it wasn’t a huge deal lol. I think at one point they asked if they still needed surgery and everyone moved on pretty quickly. I, however, will never forget it 😂😂

While working at a gear shop an elderly couple shoplifted a two person inflatable kayak. I handed in my resignation the next day.

Also worked as a life guard. You would be shocked at how many people just don't care what happens to their kids and babies.

-Squirrel got into a box of chocolate powder overnight. Died inside the box after eating a fuckton of chocolate and pooping everywhere.

-Delivery driver threatening to kill the maintenance guy who works for our land lord. (Daily occurrence)

-Walking in on my boss’s wife crying inside the walk-in fridge.

-Getting stuck in a freight elevator for 2hrs

I have some good ones from my days of working at a tire shop in college.

We had this machine we called a "rabbit." It's essentially a pringles-can-sized canister that could blast a fuck-ton of air at once. It helped when setting the bead on particularly nasty tires. One day, a rat got into the shop. This kid named Tyler caught the rat and shoved it inside the rabbit. Before anyone realized what was going on, he opened the valve and let that thing rip. He launched that rat across the interstate, probably a quarter-mile into some warehouses. That little rat got a one-way trip to the fucking moon. He said it was a warning to other rats to stay out of the shop.

I had a Chevy 2500 Silverado slip off a jack and land on my foot as I was mounting a tire. We weren't required to wear steel toes. It flattened my arch but somehow I never broke anything. Years later, I still have a BFG K02 tread pattern mark on my left foot.

One of our best techs stopped showing up out of the blue one day. We tried reaching out but never heard anything. Turns out he got arrested for domestic violence the night prior. Yikes.

I have many but I will start with a few from when I worked in the car stereo industry. This was my first real job(other than working on the farm) at the age 15 I got a job at a small car stereo chain as an installer. I worked for them all through HS and into my 20's. I quit a time or two but for some reason I always went back. Lots of good stories.

Had a new installer that said he knew what he was doing. Put him to work installing some speakers in a car door, he used way to long of screw to mount one of them and drilled the screw through the exterior of this newer car. He yelled at me to come fix it as I came around the corner I could see this 2 inch grabber screw sticking out the side of the door. Hey customer, sorry we just put a grabber screw through the side of your car, heres our insurance companies info, sorry... is how that ended.

Owner of the car stereo store put in a amp and sub box into a Mid 90's S-10 blazer. Tested, tuned it sent him on the way. Get a call about an hour later saying the guys truck caught fire and burned about 50%. Long story short, once it was investigated, found a grabber screw through the battery wire for the amp, owner had put a much larger fuse in than what was needed. He confessed it was just popping when he would put a new fuse in so he put a larger one in until it quit. Owner ended up buying him a new ride comparable along with a whole new system. He never installed anything after that.

New installer again, owners nephew this time, 18 years old. Helps put in a deck as the customer waits in waiting room. We finish up, I ask him if he is good with backing out of the shop, he replies "yep, Ive backed out of my dads garage before". Cool, I go up front to ring the customer up. In the middle of me telling the customer how much their bill is we hear this crunch, smash and glass shattering. Customer looks at me as I look at him, I said, one minute. Walk around the corner and see this kid sideways in the garage door with this customers brand new Toyota van. The whole rear quarter panel and rear windows are smashed out from ramming the wall. Hey customer, come take a look, we just totaled your new van. Again, heres our insurers info, have a nice day.

So many, I could keep going.lol

Guy I work with was wearing gloves while machining a part on a manual mill. Glove got caught in the mill and ripped his finger off. The finger had about 2ft of tendons still connected to it. Don't wear gloves when operating machining equipment.

At my old job we had a cabinet level secretary visiting our office. An hour before they’re supposed show I feel my stomach twist and run to a bathroom with terrible diarrhea. Absolutely blew up the bathroom, but nobody saw me go in or out so I slip back to my desk and go about my day.

End of day boss announces an emergency office wide meeting and spends half an hour reaming all of us out for using the bathroom I’d used because the Secretary arrived with their team, went to use the bathroom and vomited from the smell.


Nobody ever knew it was me inadvertently committing an act of biological terrorism against the head of a federal agency.

Last year while landscaping at a million dollar lake house two girls came out of the next house over in bikinis and said hi to me across the fence line than started twerking and all kinds of other dances while winking at me and I'm on the other side of the bushes trying to focus on working but then I gave up and just pretended so my boss wouldn't notice. After a while they walked down to the boat launch, hopped on a jetski and gave me the beckoning finger I nodded my head no and yelled I'm on the clock but I'd love to. Then they gave me a look of disgust and rode away.

We were downtown SLC in the sidewalk doing a city power line tap, and a fat guy jumped out of a high rise and died on the sidewalk like not even 30 feet away we all witnessed it happen.
