After reading his post, I started googling and found info, but, but...

It begins with the difference between * looking down* and * looking up*
And it makes sense.
Looking down is everything in your grasp, your control.
Looking up is everything out side of your control but which you strive for.

My name is Patrick Bateman. I'm 27 years old. I believe in taking care of myself, and a balanced diet and a rigorous exercise routine. In the morning, if my face is a little puffy, I'll put on an ice pack while doing my stomach crunches. I can do a thousand now. After I remove the ice pack, I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower, I use a water activated gel cleanser. Then a honey almond body scrub. And on the face, an exfoliating gel scrub. Only an entity, something illusory. And though I can hide my cold gaze, and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours and maybe you can even sense our life styles are probably comparable, I simply am not there.

The problem is it’s everywhere. I’m thinking practically how to cut it out and it’s almost impossible. Even food is dopamine. Friends are dopamine, nature is dopamine etc. so I guess it’s just limiting sources of excess dopamine?

It's more about cutting out unnatural dopamine. You can still workout (yes, sport produces dopamine), hang out with friends or eat healthy food. You just have to stop getting your dopamine from unnatural instant gratification dopamine sources like social media, playing videogames or eating a bunch of junk food just because you are bored. You can even still read books to pass the time
Idk, mebbe, for example food
Think about the difference between slopping down a fast food dinner or a microwave dinner
Now think about taking time with a recipe you're not familiar with and spending time learning along the way
I think * looking down* is the fast food, which you can control
As opposed to * looking up* is the meal that took time and effort and learning

Basically ya, pretty sure they mean make an effort in the projects that are worthy of your time while cutting out outside extraneous stimulation
