HOW TF DO U DO FLAT 3S

Bro ive been trying flat 3s and 5s on skis forever and it just never works out. i can do them perfectly with any grab on a tramp and i was told they looked perfect, but how come whenever i do it on snow i always stop mid air and land on my back. someone plss help me idk what im doing wrong

You're not really committing and your pop is terrible. You start setting the flip before you have hit the jump, then miss your pop off the takeoff, it looks like you try to pop when you're already in the air when you should be flipping.

Work on your pop. On a little jump like that with good speed, the right pop can mean the difference between going 2 feet or 20 feet. Also wouldn't hurt to learn backflips if you haven't already, that will help with your timing on the takeoff/pop/set.

I like to pretend there's a wall to my right (imagine left if that's what you prefer) that I'm going to do a fakie wallride on. So I just do that on an imaginary wall and it tends to work out.

those are not flat 3s. If your head goes below your skis your corking/flipping. flat 3 is almost completely sideways, and damn near impossible to do off a small jump. Its all about getting onto bigger jumps where you have more time, really carving into the jump to set up your rotation. learn rodeo 5s, and then slow em down a bit and dont cork em as hard. Just a real smooth float and look, until you spot your landing.

Pretty much the only people that bother differentiating between wackflip japans and flat 3s are people that can't do either. You're not wrong, but at a certain point its just not worth splitting hairs. You don't hear people calling dub 10s d spin 7 to lincoln.

I would consider the first video to not be a flat 3, more of a Lincoln with a 90 in there. While the 2nd vid is a pretty decent example of what i would consider a flat 3.

Not trying to be a dick, and not particularly trying to be nitpicky, but they are 2 very different tricks, with the flat being immensely more flowy, and harder to accomplish.

I consider a flat 3 more of a style thing than an actual distinct axis. Coach Trifes and Stomp It Tutorials have tutorials on this as well and their explanations directly contradict ski addiction because they both say to throw the flat on a forward axis. The definition of a flatspin is so ambiguous that I think that people should just find what they think looks good/ feels good and not get bogged down by the rodeo vs flatspin vs bio debate.

Consider that your boots & skis add about twenty pounds to you feet… and adjust your pop accordingly.

you pop like you’re on tramp expecting it to just come around but your core totally breaks open about a quarter of the way into the rotation

pop about 4x harder, keep your core tight in a “hollow” position, don’t let it break open and keep looking for your landing with your hips, core, and shoulders following your spot
