If a civil war were to break out I'd imagine it be similar to the Russian Civil war, the Whites vs. the Reds. And having billionaires backing a coup, revolt, etc., which they always do, can certainly help even the sides. There was nearly a successful coup in Turkey and it could just as much happen here, whether a rogue military, rouge mercenaries, funded by foreign or domestic interest groups, either on the side of the people or against. Like another user said, AR's account for such a low number of gun deaths in the US that it would be almost pointless to ban them and yet the ruling class in all countries seems adamant that the only gun worth banning is the one that causes the least amount of deaths but is superior in amounting an attack against tyranny no matter how ineffective.
My opinion is mostly conspiratorial, I get that, but almost all nation-states were founded on a conspiracy. America has a very large gun culture and when the economy was doing well we had middle-schoolers shooting rifles, a strong family unit which was able to afford a home on one salary but come early 1970s, the ruling class and their Gap philosophy took off and has caused the trouble we're in today and they're getting very nervous. They do not want an armed public when the American empire collapses but they'll gladly send young men and women to fight their wars.
I don't agree with the poster who says our society encourages and applauds this kind of behaviour. Who applauds this behaviour? While I think pharmaceutical drugs play a role, the FEDS account for 85% - 95% of all domestic terror plots in America, so the FEDS should take most of the blame. See the Islamaphobia industry where the FBI and the ADL would entrap and oftentimes allow mentally deranged Arabs, many times Schizophrenics, to commit terror acts, providing them with funds, ammo and often the materials to make a bomb.
