Tldr: women in the workplace should be paid the same as men solely based on merit. Sports I think should be based strictly on the revenue those people bring in.
Really interested in everyone's thoughts and ladies please chime in. I will gladly go fuck myself if y'all decide that lol.
First off, I'm not sexist. I work in a women dominated field where most are smarter than me. Absolute rockstars. It's obvious, sadly, that my gender still has advantages even with that said. Also not looking like a troll also helps with workplace advancement and job hiring which shouldn't be the case either; I've both experienced this as well as observed it multiple times. I've literally seen my department hire a hot candidate rather than a more qualified and frankly more genuinely motivated ugly fat chick. Women can be subconsciously bias against their gender too oddly enough.
It's no secret women are paid less. Men dominate leadership roles in many workforces, and even in women dominated workforces, men are still paid more. Lots of factors but generally I agree there's no reason for the disparity and it should be solely on merit. Same goes for college admissions- should be merit only and race needs excluded from questions.
Anyway, I saw on the news this morning a story about women's soccer and how they're pushing for equal pay to the men. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but 0% chance that should happen because it should be based on revenue alone. They should get the same percentage of revenue but not equal pay. If women's soccer had more fans than men and revenue, then sure fucking pay them more, but that's simply not it. This is like saying WNBA players should be compensated the same as the NBA. It's just not fiscally realistic or rational. Then again male soccer athletes are paid disgustingly high so they can afford to lose a couple million.
The only argument I could see is if you compared a sports league to a hospital. In hospitals, revenue is largely generated from procedures and medications given. Then those profits are used to support other non-revenue generating services. If the sports leagues are under one umbrella, then that would make sense. Idk shit about soccer so maybe it is this way and in that case I guess I can see an argument. Although a counter to this would be that doctors (male athletes) get paid a metric fuck ton because they bring in a proportional amount of revenue, and NPs/PAs (female athletes) are paid less because of their practice limitations. So comparing that to sports, women don't bring in the same revenue so should be paid less.
If anything, we should get rid of genders in sports if we really wanna be about equal rights. But that will NEVER HAPPEN. You can't have it both ways.
