Bro I tailgate trucks

I'm confused what you mean by "can see over them"? That still doesn't address the issue of if I slam my brakes right now, you're gonna either rear end me or ramp over my car cuz the truck is so jacked up.

I've noticed it's worse in rural areas when they know you're not from there. Driving through WV and Southern Ohio is enlightening.

Speed has very little to do with it as I often have trucks tailgating the shit out of me on one lane roads even when I'm going 10+ over the speed limit. Same for highways but add 20+ over the speed limit. Add in that often these trucks are running their high beams in addition to tailgating (this effect is compounded by the fact the lights sit directly at eye level and yes I can tell the difference between brights and regular lights). Of course slow fucks need to get over- that's everywhere.

But the moment they think you're one of the locals or if you also drive a truck, 0% chance you're getting tailgated. I've had trucks tailgate me on county roads like crazy while I was going 70 in a 55, then they pass me only to NOT tailgate the truck in front of them.

If you're gonna tailgate over the speed limit on a county road, with brights on at night, you can bet I'm slowing down to the speed limit.

SchizoSkierHere’s why you’re always getting tail gated by pickups. I personally bought my own xterra but i drive my dads 2017 ram1500 laramie more than my xterra.( to school, football, my job, skiing, errands, everywhere except offroading or really snowy roads) The reason trucks tailgate and seem aggressive is because we are higher up than the person that is in front of us, and we can see over them. Also surprisingly most newer full size trucks are very stable at higher speeds and have bigger engines that are pretty fast. Also , chances are you’re going slow if you see a truck on your ass. If you’re going 75 in the left lane on I-70 you should probably move over. But to sum everything up, most truck drivers don’t go out of their way to ride your ass, it just happens sub-consciously. Unless you’re a prius going 65 in the fast lane.


Side note I am getting fucked by gas prices rn, I have the 2 worst cars for fuel efficiency

Lol but folks in MT were right and I was wrong, there’s a road going thru that has pull offs for you to pull off so people can pass, it’s a 55mph country mountain road, my first time there I was driving 60 in a snowstorm at night down a mountain with a line of people behind me flashing and beeping, I was so confused til the sun came up the next day and I saw the signs that say “ move over for blah blah blah “ I was like oh fuck wish PA had these lol 😂 After learning the local habits, MT is actually a quite nice place to drive, there’s like no litter, it’s so beautiful

Also gotta say, whether I’m in a 1 ton or larger, passenger vehicles still ride my ass! More than trucks, But when it is a truck, it’s never a tradesman , cal driver etc… it’s always some dumb kid in daddies truck, or mr hurrr durrr hrrr Merika and peannutbutter hrr durrr

When I was 16 I drove a Tahoe and being able to see over cars certainly made me tend to get closer to people. I have since grown the fuck up and usually leave 2-4 seconds between me and the car in front depending on weather. I also have noticed that trucks aren't really more prone to tailgating than cars, it's just more noticable. It seems like young people tailgate way more than older people, too.

I had an ex who would insist on driving her Passat like 2 feet behind the next car and I literally only let her drive like twice for that reason. No matter how much I tried explaining the physics and probably of stopping, crashing, etc that makes tailgating bad, she wouldn't listen. People who tailgate simply do not think or use reason when driving. Which is scary. It's crazy to me how some of the smartest people can be such terrible drivers

I was once driving at around midnight in the middle of nowhere rural Saskatchewan (like more middle of nowhere than you can possibly get in the lower 48) and the one car I saw in probably 20 minutes comes speeding up behind me and starts tailgating with his highbeams on. It wasn't a super great place to pass and a passing lane was coming up so I kept my speed. Passing lane comes and the dude still doesn't pass and is right on my ass the whole time. Once the passing lane ended I though fuck this guy so decide to just pull over to make sure he passes. Dude pulled over too. I was in a van that can't do more than about 110 km/h so there was no way I would outrace him if I sped off so instead I reached for whatever I could find as a weapon and grabbed a screwdriver that was between the seats and started to get out of the van. The moment I started opening the door the the red and blue lights went on on the car behind me. It was a fucking cop and he scared the absolute shit out of me. Didn't do anything wrong, he was just being a dick and checking my plates for no reason. Asks me why I pulled over and why my seatbelt was off. I just said I pulled over to stretch and was about to get out rather than because you were a fuckign asshole who I though was a crazy redneck I was about to have to stab with a screwdriver. Good times.

I think they meant forward visibility, as in they can see over the car in front of them so they see obstructions just as soon as car in front. Big vehicles do have a huge advantage in traffic being able to see a larger vantage point

Good point. I prefer to look through the car in front of me. Works unless it's a truck. Also the visibility on my subaru is epic. Other cars like chevy are awful for visibility, even with suvs. Some brands better than others.

Prius for sure. I'm currently diving a Prius C and it's insane how much more aggressive people are to me on the road compared to my last car or when I drive other cars. No change in the driving, just a change in the car and people become far more aggressive.

Sure things like Airbnb, HGTV making everyone a house flipper, and other things have made affordable housing more difficult. But housing, crowded roads, crowded hiking, has a lot more to do with their being too many people in this country not necessarily where they come from.

People who speed up from way back to tailgate but wont pass or get confused if you give them space at a passing zone. When You get behind slow people that won't let you pass/can't maintain speed. Both sides are shot.

Personally I like to drive with noone in front or behind me. When it's a pretty open road and one of the few cars you see wants to pace you even. Like bro, learn how to maintain speed, I bet you have cruise control in that thing. It aint hard.

Not a huge fan or cruise control, I like to be focused and in control, but I’ll use it on those 4+hr legs of trips, I find I have to activate/re activate to maintain distance tho, it’s easier to control your distance when your foots on the pedal.

I don't even think they actively think about it. I've been thinking about it in the road. I think that people who are used to traffic are so used to following cars they speed up and catch to the next car to follow it. Pretty much. It doesn't help that FOX has been yelling about some great migration from CA for years now....that shocker, has been shown not to be true. It gets a lot of hate but it has debatably North Americas best skiing, climbing, mtbing, kayaking etc etc. and it pretty much holds down the US economy.
