What is with the angry dudes on any social post about inclusivity??

The people argue that it isn't an issue for and never has been an issue in skiing/snowboarding, in the mtns in general. "Nobody cares" "it isn't a problem" then half of the comments are angry dudes telling you how it isn't a problem and nobody cares.



Then people in marginalized groups say it has been, have some events, go have fun on the mtns, and angry dudes post angry things.

There's been a bunch of cool events getting women, people of color, queer folks out shredding. It's been a good thing. There are always some angry white straight men yelling in any of the posts.

Why do people doing things in the outdoors make these people so angry? Also how do they not realize that their douchey posts show the reason that those events exist?

AGOFWhile Reed was an absolutely sick skier he for was for sure several steps behind the top guys. Big air has a small field as it is and Reed didn’t have the grabs locked in super well on high rotation doubles. If you don’t think X Games would have been insanely stoked to market a non white person in skiing you’re lying to yourself, it would have been a huge ratings boost.


I guess, but also he was inventing axis and had such a marketable style IMO

Thats why a lot of people call his skiing “party flips on steroids”, it was super unorthodox and just looked like pure send

Maybe these events are events put together by members of the community who want an event for similar people. I'm a queer white guy and think the events are a great thing to bring a community together and a great way to meet new friends.

Weird how the douche vibes always are the victims. Omg no! It's so terrible that other people I hate have rights. It's infringing on my ability to be an asshole.

So some people want to ski with similar people and maybe make some friends. Oh no! What ever will we do. That sounds really terrible.

It's impressive how slow things change. Also impressive how the haters don't realize that these events are generally a direct response to the douchery. If people really didn't care, things would be different. But it's pretty obvious that that isn't the case.

I remember a while ago there was a thread made about how NS needs to be more inclusive and how it’s toxic which leads to a lack of new young members that contribute to the site. At the time only a few ppl agreed with that take in the thread and everyone was saying that the OP was blowing things out of proportion and that while ppl troll in NS, it’s just banter and that the community isn’t very toxic. Some of the comments in this thread and in a bunch of other threads (PPL agreeing with Ahmets takes especially blatant transphobia, some negative comments on Maritime Air, and homophobia when Hank made a thread trying to facilitate a place for queer ppl to meet and interact in this site) over the past couple months show why that thread was made and show that there is potentially an alarming amount of people on NS who just aren’t very accepting to ppl of different walks of life. We need to do better as a community and overcome some of the negativity and prejudice that some ppl spew.

And no I haven’t been on this site as long as you since I either would have not been born or more likely have been a year or two years old. But I’ve been lurking since like 2017-2018 and I think 5 or so years is long enough to notice a trend or two.

I think it's good to talk about this stuff publicly, and especially in your local scenes. I observed similar patterns in my local online MTB scene, and decided to speak up about it in a blog post that used real-world examples that readers would recognize. It resonated with people and irked others, but the bottom line is it got people talking and thinking about things from a different perspective. After that, action, even if just calling others out on their bullshit.

Weird how people go ao heavy on the defense and get mad. If you're not an asshole idk what there is to get angrg about.

Also just listened to the bombhole episode with Brolin last night and he was talking about some of the shit he runs into going back to a couple months ago even being a black pro snowboarder.

Idk it's weird how people in different communities have run into some shitty people, enjoy having these events. But none of the issues exist because you say so?

Also how do people like you become the victim in this? "Omg can't say openly racist or homophobic shit anymore, they're censoring us!"

It's just weird how people ignore any problems, say they don't exist, are assholes about it, and then somehow become the vicitm. Some weird shit more used to seeing in the religious right.

You preach the whole "maybe try to give less shit what other people think and just do what you enjoy and go to the events that you enjoy? what a load of bullshit this all is jesus christ." Yet can't let people just have their thing without being mad/kind of a douche about it?

The north face posted about protecting marriage equality. I get that that's more political than other posts, but still the reaction by douchebags wasn't surprising but pretty whack.

Idk it's funny how the "i don't care" types seem to care a lot. There's a lot of weird shit under the surface/even at the surface these days.

I get being opposed to change but people having rights is such a fucked up place to take that stand imo. Some people are just shitty honestly.

I'm actually shocked that this is even coming up in discussions, that legislators are even toying with the idea of removing these rights. Sure marriage started out from religion, but the tax and other financial benefits are not. Why should someone have to have a heterosexual marriage to be given access to those privileges? Religion should have zero influence on our laws yet it does; the separation of church and state is a fucking joke. God is referenced in far too many parts of government oaths and actions to say there's a separation.

After roe was overturned I thought it was a bit callous for the LGBT community to start talking about other issues being related, but oh man how wrong I was. They just had the foresight to know what was coming and the risk it posed to human rights.

It's also crazy to think you can be jailed or even executed for being gay in various countries in 2022. Also crazy to think that we have modern European countries that don't allow even civil unions between same sex couples.

We are backsliding as a society and there's no end in sight.

Not really though. Sure companies are trying to do things that make them look more favorable. I think these outdoor companies care to some extent for sure. Of course they're trying to make money but calling it a grift is a lot.

There's been a lot going on for years connecting people with the outdoors.

Generally the same people freaking out about the virtue signaling if companies throw a rainbow logo up are just assholes. The same people that say "unfollowing this account" "I'll take my business elsewhere" "Stick to selling gear".

Regardless of their intentions I think it's great if the only people bothered by it are generally shitty people.

It's pretty wild that that's the hill people will die on. People having rights? "Get woke go broke".

Ignorant hate has a half life.
