For those who arent troll and still angry; its a form of tribalism/fanaticism. To help disregard their stupid angry post, think that they never done anything to contribute to the sport. Its when you push through difficult sessions, you tend to chill and understand the athlete side of things.

I would say 95% are not trolling. It's kind of a bad spot to "troll" anyway. But these people are cooked.

Idk, I'm not worrying too much about it but it's kind of a bummer to see. It's def rarely people who shred.

Close-minded people will be close-minded. They're angry at the world and believe that including others somehow excludes them. And because they're assholes, they're left behind and nobody wants to include them. These close-minded people find each other and create echo chambers about how they aren't the problem, it's everyone else. They lash out and get pushed away even further. Its time for them to get out of the way because this scene is starting to go down the shitter because of them and also how "popular" and "SuPeR CoOl" it is to ski nowadays with beaters moving in from out of state. Im all for everyone wanting to ride snow because its provided experiences second to none for myself, but we also have to address the poser scene that is coming in hard as well. I'm talking all you ski social media influencers too. You're not in it for inclusivity, you're in it for clout.

I've never seen it but that's because I'm not a marginalized group and just cuz we don't witness, doesn't mean it ain't happening. Sorry if you've had to deal with shit like that. Seems unreal in an activity like snow sports but the world never ceases to surprise me.

Or do you mean it's a difficult sport to get involved in due to social and financial restraints? Getting middle to low income groups into skiing is challenging enough financially. Hate adds a whole new level that we don't need.

Side note: there's way too much territorial hate going on in skiing and just living somewhere in general (e.g. "This is my mountain and has been ruined by tourists and ikon/epic pass holders", or "quit moving to Colorado", etc). Why can't we just focus on ourselves and let people be themselves

Does it matter why you wanna ski? It really shouldn't. Poser scene, influencers, novices stoked to move somewhere for a radical sport, who cares. Imo its all about the person not say their race or sexuality. These groups personalities feel different for the "angry dudes" so they naturally feel the need to push back just as much as these groups are being pushed onto them.

Once these "angry dudes" realize that there are people within these groups that can shred on the same level and aren't so different as them we will reach a better state of inclusivity.

If I had to take a guess it’s just that people are scared of change and things they don’t “know”. The feeling that your safe space, your solace is getting invaded and taken away from you by people who don’t look like you and aren’t from the same lived experience makes these types of people very scared. Think about it ski towns and mountains are usually somewhat to very remote, it can breed a very strong sense of tribalism, and seeing people who don’t “make the cut” by having the same beliefs, appearance, or whatever else can feel like the fabric of your community is getting altered. Which can lead to pushback, harassment, and at the worst potentially violence. Of course there’s a lot more to all of these things than just that but I feel like that’s a big contributing factor. Just my two cents from a black and queer skier.

Sure some of the people at some companies putting them on probabbly don't that much. Many seem like they do.

But there are people from these communities getting onterviewed, or throwing an event, or starting a sick squad like pink dollar possy and shredding.

Not of those things target anyone else, but there's always some weird white straight guys yelling in the comments.

I really haven't seen nearly as much virtue signalling. Maybe on facebook. Idk. Not worth writing it off imo when on the flip side there are a bunch of people getting angry that a group of women, black people, gays, or anyone else did something. It's jist weird.

I'm not surprised with how straight up racist people feel free to be these days.

There's been a bunch of cool events getting women, people of color, queer folks out shredding. It's been a good thing. There are always some angry white straight men yelling in any of the posts.

I always assumed that (in general) angry / negative people are usually angry because of other issues in their lives, or because of trauma... and as a result, it leaks out when they get triggered by little things.

For example, I have a coworker that has really bad anger issues and everyone knows it. He will absolutely lose his shit over the most minor things!
He's in his 60's. But I know for a fact he had a pretty rough life growing up, and his journeymen treated him like shit when he was learning. So it probably contributed to why he's always angry and acts like a dick.

Idk, i guess what im trying to say is that - we are a product of our environment. That being said, it doesn't automatically give people an excuse to treat people like shit. But it helped me a ton to approach it from an understanding point of view, rather than get angry back at them. Cuz that litrrally does nothing but fuel the fire and take away from my own piece of mind

I've been to most of the controversial ikon mountains that people here call theirs and I've never waited for longer than 5-10min on weekends. Weekdays? Cake. People can complain but in reality most people can only ski weekends and most people also like skiing powder. If you're waiting an hour in line on a pow day, then wanna complain about said decision to wait in line, you're a chump. The mountain isn't their property and idk why people can't get it through their heads.

None of this arguing or petitions (LOL) affects me so ultimately it doesn't matter. It's just such a drawn out rant on newschoolers all the fucking time. Like fuck me give it a rest already.

I blame racism for Reed Lewis never getting an X games big air invite. One of the most iconic jump skiers ever and somehow never got to show it to the world. Shame.

Idk if it was actually racism or something to do with the way the comp circuit allows ppl to be recruited, which could also be tracked back to racism because in order to actually get involved in the comp circuit you need either a million sponsors or boatloads of cheddar and prove large lol

While Reed was an absolutely sick skier he for was for sure several steps behind the top guys. Big air has a small field as it is and Reed didn’t have the grabs locked in super well on high rotation doubles. If you don’t think X Games would have been insanely stoked to market a non white person in skiing you’re lying to yourself, it would have been a huge ratings boost.
