Yep. I also did the whole ordeal of boot fitting and custom insoles this year. It helped a little, especially for those minor backseat landings or if you wanna tail butter but any backseat landings >3-4' and bye bye toenails. I've just accepted it and remember to bring a needle when I travel.

I'd assume your toes either have too much space in the boots or not enough. Both can lead to toe-bang. My boot fitter molded my liners with a rubber cap over my toes, which created a cavity of space so that my toes aren't crammed even though my feet are very snug and don't move around at all within the boots. A proper liner and boot fitter are worth their weight in gold!

Had never had full black toenails or had any fall off, but ended up with both toenails black this year. Both happened in separate instances from frontflips I landed backseat. Right one fell off a couple weeks ago, left is still fully attached but a deep shade of purple. This summer isnt gonna be pretty

Dealt with it for years from hockey skates, bike shoes, climbing shoes and ski boots were always the worst. Would be a yearly cycle of going black - either falling off or getting them professionally removed; they grow back and become ingrown and super sensitive[at which point the going black and falling off is almost a relief]. After almost 10 years of that cycle I finally had them removed permanently before this season - should have done it years ago. They numb your toes, remove the nail and 'cauterize' the root so they don't grow back. They were almost completely healed over after about 4 weeks and I've had zero pain or issues. AND they look 1000x better than fucked up toe nails.

nope thats me, still working with the attorney hahah, at least I didn't loose em, I'm lucky it didn't get infected, still have zero feeling in either.

Usually what causes a toenail to turn black is trauma to the toe. Once this happens, your toes will be more susceptible to black toes in the future. In my case, even when the nail is cut, I still get black toes. Ive had three this season. Two at the beginning and now a nail regrowth towards the end of the season, turned black. Sometimes even when not backseat, the skis grip to the snow after a jump or other air can push the foot forward in the boot even when centered. Some get them. Some dont. I used to never get them until I took a backpacking trip with shoes too small causing trauma to the feet and now while skiing, it happens too when it used to not occur. Another point to this could be the constant shift our feet go through during growth spurts in our younger years or just the changes going on during life that can effect this too. Sometimes, people like to ski with a tighter boot, but keeping your toes against the front of the boot even when moving back can be a bad thing. Its more complicated than just fixing one thing and I sound like a complete geek for describing the conditions to get black toes and increased tendencies after reoccurring instances.
