I’m not too far from you. Definitely a lot more flat there though than here in swpa. Mountains don’t allow for any major tornadoes really. We’ve had a few tiny ones in the region in the past decade tho

Every time water supply issues in the west is brought up some dufus comments "wHy CaN't wE pIpE wAtEr fRoM tHe GrEaT LaKeS?" If you want access to the worlds greats supply of fresh water you can move there, we're certainly not got to drain it dry just like your reseviors for you.

The water situation is definitely not hopeless, we just need to get A LOT of people and companies on board with new water habits and practices. We can function using far less water than we do, it's just a matter of convincing people to actually do that... A lot of people in the west don't give a rip though

We (this side of the continental divide) have a different ecosystem and therefore, still plenty of groundwater to pass around ( we'll trade some water for pow day invites)

I've been in utah for 12 years, moved to santa barbara, ca (90 miles nw of LA) for a couple years in between. santa barbara had fires close by, utah has extreme drought. we almost had to evacuate the house in santa barbara at one point but were just outside the evac line. the last two years we've had some of the worst drought in history in utah. but to answer your question no, I never considered moving out of either state because of weather.

You may run into long term pollution issues with groundwater particularly in PA from gas extraction industry.

Extreme drought in Utah for a long time now, that sucks, but it seems like it's finally getting bad enough that people are noticing and it might help change the terrible water habits around here.
The good news is that we have a lot of levers to play with before it gets to the point where the only option is to fuck off to somewhere else.
The big thing is probably agriculture, 75% of our water is used by agriculture, mostly for hay, and almost a third of that production is shipped overseas, just really dumb. With such limited water supply, agriculture should be limited to supplying local needs. I get that the farmers selling that hay won't like it, but they're not the priority imo.
Just making that change would give us a lot of breathing room already, but then other levers include residential irrigation, close to 10% of our water goes to that and people have terrible habits there, changing that and continuing the trend to switch to xeriscaped yards will help too, we still have options.

So yeah, I think residents need to be mindful of the situation and change habits, but no need to worry too much about it or consider moving because of it, yet.
