i will be blessing Crystal mountain ski resort with my presence that day. I'd enjoy some sun on that day, i want sunny and 35 degrees... ideal conditions, if not.. oh well...

Hopefully there will be some good prizes for once. I've been getting so shafted this year its not even funny... cost me about 150 bucks to compete in the Shanty Creek Huck Fin (25 entry + 20 insurance + 20 lift ticket + 20 gas + 75 speeding ticket), and for second place I got a 10 dollar gift certificate and four red bulls.

its a slopestyle competition, run on Rider Zone, same hill where they had the other comps this year. Its $25 to enter and last year the winner got a pair of skis.

The course is gonna be option 20ft flat rail, or C-rail, into the option of the disaster rail or the rainbow. Followed by a table which you can skip if you would like to do the single kink rail, the trapezoid rail, or some triple rail combo thing.

so this could turn into a rail comp?? also, is the rider zone the run that can be seen from the high speed, or the run in the woods?? is the 25$ for entrance cover lifts too?? thanks for the answers in advance

also, whats the invert rule there?? say....for example suppose someone d-spins or underflips the table...just as an example haha, will they let it go??

well yeah more rails than jumps but the judges at the past comp could care less about the rails in comparison to the jump. Just an example Luke Waldo had clean hits on the jump all of his runs but fell and ejected on the rainbow rail on each of his runs but still got 3rd over some riders who dominated 5 rails but skipped the jump.

$25 does not cover your lift ticket, i believe there is a discount but i dont know since i got a season pass, email info@crystalmountain.com

As for inverts last year in this comp the people running this comp paid a lot for insurance cause its some corporation and they let you do anything you want with inverts. As for this year I really dont know but no matter what you could get away with d-spins misty's etc... Once again email for more info.

and the 20ft should be on a table, no promise cause i wont be there till friday so i cant let you know in advance. Last friday it wasnt on a table but it was 2 1/2 ft high in comparison to normally being 1ft so it will be a bit harder than normal.

Rider zone is the one you can see on the left side of the high speed chair, it is serviced either by the slow Cheers double or the Buck Quad lift.

sounds awesome, good to hear that the jump counts for that many brownie points. Im def going to be there, mike hornbeck might come too, should be alot of fun, hopefully ill have a whole crew with me to either compete or tape, should be fun, what time is registration?

you should try and compete no matter what, even if you know your not gonna win its fun, its a good experience and you never know what may happen. The more skiers enter, the more Crystal Mountain will support skiers in there competitions. Registration is probly around 9 9:30 in the Crystal Center, probly downstairs in the ticket area. Practice will probly start 10:30 or 11, with the comp probly starting around 1.

any one got specific suggestions for the park in terms of how rails are set up and stuff like that? I will be out there late tommorow workin on stuff but I wont remember and notice everything so let me know and I will do what I can.

all do what i can to make the table good, its hard for that cause i cant build that with a shovel so i have to influence the groomers to get it my way. It will be better than the last to comps though because once we build it there wont be any idiots who work at Modern to mess it up.

STAGER THE RAILS SO YOU CAN HIT MORE THAN JUST TWO A RUN. MAKE THE RAINBOW AND THE KINK ON TABLETOPS SO YOU CAN TRICK INTO THEM ON SKIS.

well we cant really move the big ones (rainbow, trapezoid) and there really isnt a way to set it up that you can do 3 rail and a jump cause you cant get enough speed for a good sized jump. Its possible if you maybe through the C-rail or the single kink in the middle of the hill but thats not gonna happen.

Also, dont write everything in ALL CAPS, its really annoying

the judging was insane. not to mention the prizes scam, brett was the only one that got a decent prize, and he deserved first. other than that it was really messed up.

the comp was really fun though. there was a good turn out, and the weather was amazing. the riot before the awards was awesome. mike's skiing into the crowd was the funniest thing to happen all day. well.. maybe that ballet guy was funnier, but only because he thought he should have won and argued with the judges about it.

Yea, I was gonna come out, but it was my onlt chance to make it to Nub;s this season, Their park is siiiick! But definantly a gorgeous day! Then I leave for Aspen Wed. woohoo!

Mike, the skiing into the crowd was definately the highlight of the awards. I liked the guy with the mullet getting all upset. Slight Correction on the awards from how Ethan wrote, this it what they were supposed to be.....

15 & Under
1st - Brett Weiss
2nd - Jim Knape
3rd - Tyler Barnes

16 & Older
1st - Teddy Knape
2nd - Ethan Stone

I will try and get a copy of the full point sheet so we can see who got 3rd, along with all of the results past that. My guess would be it is Mike Reed because from the points that we saw, Ethans run with the badly fallen switch back recieved the same score Tyler Barnes near perfect run of switch on 20ft Rail, Unnatural C-rail, Disaster Rail, Flair on the table. Also, anyone who competed, especially the people who got ripped off, try and email info@crystalmountain.com or call (231) 378-2000 and ask to speek to some sort of management.

For those who werent there, everything went perfecct, the coarse was really nice and then the awards happened. They spent about 1 hour doing the raffle and talking about how much money was raised. Then they did the snowboarder awards, 1st, 2nd and 3rd place recieved season passes for next year along with a pile of stuff including video games, skateboards, really good Oakley googles, a lots of shirts and stuff. Then they read the skier divsion. To start everyone was told there would be 2 age groups, but they basically got lazy and cut it down to 1, they announced 3rd (Teddy, Jim Knape), then 2nd (Brett Weiss), and then they called a snowboarder for first place (Taylor Carlton). They had no prizes at all, and no passes to give to the skiers. Brett recived a pair of goggles for 2nd, then when they realized he actually won they gave him a skateboard instead, but he asked if he could keep the goggles instead. I was there and asked what i got for 2nd place and they told me they didnt have anything to give me, along with the rest of the skiers even though there was a box of stuff shirts etc..... right there. As for the judging, Jim Knape somehow beat tyler simply doing 20ft rail, then a backflip on the table. Ethan Stone tied tyler, even though i believe he fell 2 of his runs, and Tyler had 2 perfect runs.

Lane skied really well in practice and overall throughout the day. but he fell in two of his runs, and so his chances of winning were slim.

the comp was tight the judging was messed up though. the dj and the set up was sweet.

Yeah, as for Lane, we reviewed the video yesterday. First run, 20ft rail, didnt make the C-rail, fell on switch rodeo. 2nd run didnt even touch 20ft rail, didnt make c-rail, spun out landing on switch rodeo, and 3rd run switch 20ft, didnt make c rail, to a good switch rodeo. Hopefully the judging will be better in the future, but even more imporantly they should have not only prizes for skiers, but equal prizes for skiers and snowboarders.
