skiindanaOk, so is there a war in eastern Ukraine with the same demands or not for the past 7 years? As far as I can tell, Russia invaded Ukraine in 2015. Yes, what happened recently was different since they attempted to overthrow the government, but now, it's basically the same conflict as before with Russia trying to take the East and connect with Crimea with literally the same demands.
I know though, the media told you it would be best if we overthrow Putin and start a war. So anything that goes against that is confusing and we have to virtue signal about civilians you suddenly care so much about. Suddenly you probably care about civilians in Yemen, or Israel, or Palestine, or Iraq, or Afghanistan.
I'm sure it's not you totally getting hyped up on whatever is in the media...
LonelyMan what? See this is why I think that the "always question the narrative people" are just about as bad as the people who always follow the narrative.
How is this in any way similar to Crimea besides the fact that it's Russia invading Ukraine under false pretenses?
We've seen more casualties in 2 months than we saw in 8 years since the initial invasion of Crimea.
Millions more refugees.
The complete destruction of the Russian economy.
The largest and most unified sanctions ever.
Switzerland breaking neutrality and Germany upping its military budget.
The pull out of a large swath of American companies from a country of 144 million.
One of the largest raw fossil fuel exporters is now being cut off from the world politically and economically.
The upheaval of the global order now that people realize that the Russian military isn't nearly as adept, nor is the country as globally important as it was thought to be 6 months ago.
Should it be something you're thinking about in your day to day? Probably not.
Is the mainstream media going to milk this? Sure, welcome to existing in the united states for the past 40 years. I don't watch that shit and you don't have to either. Go read original source material then.
Will it affect you to some degree? Of fucking course. We live in a globalized society and this is the largest disruption Europe has seen since the fall of the wall.
skiindanaMost of what you wrote about is due to the original invasion. I was talking about the current situation which is a war in the East with 100% the same demands as before.
I'm not saying it isn't relevant to the world at large. What I'm talking about is the media reaction that gets everyone going around repeating the same thing and demonizing anyone who goes against the narrative. I personally do not want to see troops in Ukraine or money blindly going to a country that is known to be corrupt. I don't think we should act to overthrow Putin and we 100% should give him a way out to avoid more serious conflicts.

notadoctorNothing. Knowledge of anything outside one's own mind is unsure; the external world and other minds cannot be known and might not exist outside the mind.
That reminds me, I need to refill my prescriptions...

HypeBeastTotally the same. Totally the media.

LonelyLet me be very clear here so I don't get accused of this. I'm not demonizing you for not following the narrative, I'm going to call you a dumb fuck because your takes are fucking dumb.
skiindanaAgain, the current demands are the same. The current area of war activity is the same. It has been going on since 2015. This is all true.
LonelyWhat?
skiindanaOur own government does this...
.
skiindanaDude I know, I saw, it is terrible. It is the same region where war has been going on since 2015. I have no idea what I am supposed to do about it. This stuff happens all over the world. Our own government does this...
The media is currently using this to divide and justify us either giving money to corrupt people and organization or further escalate a situation from which we get no benefit either way... We shouldn't be involved.
HypeBeastThis..... I'll actually agree with...... Fuck..... Honestly...
HypeBeast"no idea"...... Do you agree or not agree that we have a moral obligation? I'm conflicted
skiindanaNo we do not have a moral obligation. This is exactly the bullshit the media is advocating. By that logic we should be in tons of other places too...

HypeBeastYou do realize media is made up of normal every day people? What's with the continuous hate for them? Sure some networks are more biased but u def sound like a nut when u bring up media in every other post.
T.L.Holy shit.
We've come full circle. Every thread used to turn into a covid thread and now a covid thread has turned into a ukraine thread.
skiindanaDude they purposefully divide the country. They advance an agenda - even if I sometimes agree with that agenda. They demonize people they disagree with and call them racists or sexists or whatever - again all to divide and get more views/ratings/advance an agenda.
Look into the 'trusted new initiative'. They literally collude on narratives now - an example is the 'don't say gay' freak out that was just happening. I can guarantee there are lots of parents who would take offense to being called homophobic just because they don't want some random teacher telling their kids how to think...
theabortionatorYeah. It's so messed up that gay people wanted some basic rights and that people stopped calling everything gay or probably far worse
Things change dude. There was a lot of stuff that used to be accepted that isn't. And yes people were very fucking racist not that long ago to. And sexism, that's a thing.
What a weird bone to pick honestly. Definitely pretty telling.
Big yikes.
skiindanaI'm not even sure what that's supposed to mean. It's offensive to me that you would imply 'it's pretty telling' as if I have some issue with people... I said nothing to suggest that whatsoever. Like fuck you?
theabortionatorIt's not surprising to me that you found that offensive. You literally were talking about the people pushing agendas, and the people that don't agree with them being called racist or sexist. The "don't say gay freak out" lol. Would you find it offensive if a teacher told their student not to say the n word?
I can guarantee there are a lot of parents that would take offense to being called racist just because they dont want some teacher telling their kids how to think.
Like idk man. I thought teachers were supposed to ya know, teach kids things. If their parents are homophobic, racist, sexist, whatever maybe it's actually a good thing that they learn that it isn't so cool to be like that?
You're argument is one of the reasons things like racism and homophobia have such a bad half life. I learned this. This used to be okay, Ill be damned if some teacher is going to tell my kids different. Cool dude.
Also interesting how yourself, and a lot of people on the right, especially the religious right some how become the victim. It's weird how other people actually having rights is such an issue. You're literally still allowed to be racist and homophobic btw, you just can't infringe on other peoples rights. But yeah black people have always had equal rights, gay people have always had equal rights, they all just want to be special. You're definitely the vicitm here and I feel bad that you're kid might come home from school one day thinking that maybe it's not cool to hold bigoted views. Man that would be tough.
But that's right, I shouldn't assume how you feel about anything. You probably knew a gay person once and didn't hate them, well not totally, okay maybe totally, but you didn't agree with their lifestyle right? Now some teacher says you can't say "that's gay?" Prolly should boycott that school, or maybe school all together. Teachers might try and teach things. What a crazy world right?
So yeah I said "that's telling" because I was impressed with how blatant you laid out your feelings on the situation.
Good luck with that. Keep fighting "the good fight" or whatever.

skiindanaI'm not going to get into it with you because clearly you're emotional and have been unhinged by reading reddit or something, but the bill is strictly about planned curriculum in school for k-3... It's not about racism or sexism or whatever. But you do you and get mad based on literal media hyperbole...
T.L.Holy shit.
We've come full circle. Every thread used to turn into a covid thread and now a covid thread has turned into a ukraine thread.
theabortionatorLol okay dude. You're so woke.
I'm just chillin. I pointed something out that you said. And you're being weird about it. Good luck with that. Go back to arguing about whatever. Something something liberal media sheeple insert random conspiracy yolo.
skiindanaDude you're being weird about it... make accusation and writing paragraphs
theabortionatorI always write paragraphs.
I should have just put your quotes together. The one I originally quoted pretty much explained your response to me.
Cool opinions i guess?
skiindanaBasically what happened is I mentioned how the media makes people demonize anyone who dares not agree 100% with the narrative and gave an example issue, and then you did exactly what I said is happening?
theabortionatorYou're argument is one of the reasons things like racism and homophobia have such a bad half life. I learned this. This used to be okay, Ill be damned if some teacher is going to tell my kids different. Cool dude.

r00kieOkay, we pulled the skiindiana party gag out of the closet but I think it's time to put it away til next year.
HypeBeastAlso @Samp20 if you were worried about covid and the USA, fear not. Use this thread as an example. No one cares. Also slightly impressed we went not only beyond covid to Ukraine but now into a full blown argument about the word "gay". Didn't see that coming. Lmaooo
yungonaThe democratic system will be the downfall of our great nation.
SimonWherityur gonna be the downfall of our already shitty nation
HypeBeast+1 for the half life comment. Big brain move.
Hey man I'm in the group who thinks the whole "don't say this word" or that is bs. Like let's be real, the word gay existed before it was used in a sexual meaning, but the reality is it offends people so it's simple to just omit from the vocabulary. Easy peasey. Not a big deal. My life is no different and I just call people stupid or idiots now. Shit I hardly even say retard anymore.
😭😭😭😭😭😭 Motm nomination if that exists
theabortionatorWhat a strange bubble world you live in dude

skiindanaAgain you’re the one screaming racism and sexism at me like some weirdo when I said nothing of the sort

theabortionator...
skiindanaYeah for like maybe the third time, where the duck do I say anything against anyone? Maybe you should learn what that bill is… you could try listening to bill Maher for a democrats take, or you can just keep demonizing me for no reason like a crazy brainwashed person.
Youre racists and sexist for not thinking like me!
