Powder day douchery? Is spring slush superior?

Has it been increasing, has it stayed consistent? It's always been a little bit of a thing, crowds haven't helped, social media really hasn't helped.

Got some good pow runs today but honestly pow days can fuck off. Give me slush laps. No lines, sunshine, good vibes.

Pow days seem to bring out the douche in people, especially the last couple of years.


Obviously different people have different views, and different locations have different vibes. I've noticed this consistently in places I've ridden in recent years. Wondering what people's thoughts are?

True. Idk if you got this pow cycle. Looked like you did, but damn, it went from 0 to 60.

Been ripping some of the best runs of the season, getting some good lines and even casual cruising or park laps. A little powder and errrbody and there mom, dad uncle, brother, dog names ruffus, is out on the hill.

Hoping it goes back to spring after this. I love pow turns, don't get me wrong. But all things factored in I think I massively prefer spring slish laps these days.

People have 0 interest in skiing then. I agree, I should shut up about it lol

I love spring because my legs are strong and even when I overshoot stuff it's soft and im just like okay guess this is happening and stomp anyway

At this point I don’t even care if it snows because it ain’t gonna be enough to lengthen the season. Give me good weather days.

tried to go to pc today and it was refreezed slush from a 55 degree day yesterday, mixed with 30 mph winds. Which basically means skiing on a straight up ice cube, and is not very fun with detuned Vishnus.

We got like an inch in PC after it rained all night, alta prob not too bad but when the snow is this wet, most utah ppl are chillin.

True. I saw Joan posting aome alta pow clips wasn't sure of you got hammered. We got about 2 feet at Crystal. And it was actually good snow. Just like my good spring vibes.

Relevant, the rona shutdown year Tahoe was hurting on pow days. We had early season snow, groomers and parks were ripping. Sunny every day. We got a big dump when it shit down. People lost their minds about how they only used their pass like 5 times and wanted a refund. I was riding several days a week and it was sunny, uncrowded and killer vibes. Pow only vibe is for kooks imo. Especially these days with the crowds.

I'mma be honest, pow skiing isn't even that fun. It's cool and enjoyable for the first 2 or 3 runs, but after that, I just want to slide a rail

Powder days are overrated. In fact I really can't stand people who complain about conditions all the time. I get maybe a quick remark here and there but if you are only trying to ski on the "good days" or bitching about coverage you probably just aren't fun to ski with or can't send in suboptimal conditions.

As stated previously though I do like "powder bros" in that they stop showing up to the mountain around this time of year and help shorten the lift lines.

Both are extremely valid. Both are extremely fun to ski in and each have their own pros/cons.

Spring time is like post season. No rush, everything is soft till 4, story telling after hours at a tailgate party… its just fun to team up with old friends and share slushy laps.
Moguls are at their best in the spring. I still draw a crowd when Im ripping through the spring bumps!

Dude being a weekend warrior again and dealing with traffic and crowds makes me a stressy powder skier. I hate it. I always hated those people rushing to the mountain and rushing to get so many laps in. Now I’m one. Spring is way better pace here.

I was ripping spring bumps 2 weekends ago in Santa Fe. Damn did it feel nice!

Fair enough. I just want to end on some nice slushy days without anyone.

Snow on this storm was real good though. I didnt get as many turns as i prolly should have but i got some good ones

Many have disagreed with me but I still believe the best time of year in UT is mid-march til closing day at snowbird. Have had some seriously amazing days with friends and by myself and absolutely zero hardo doucher vibes with walk-on laps and creamy turns or sick corn laps to be had everywhere. Last wednesday up there reminded me of that. Enjoy your dry shit-ass champagne powder and getting coreshots. Ill take dense hotpow and corn any day of the week that ends in Y

Day or 2 after pow days are my favorite if temps stay and you can just pop off bumps or charge through them. Typically not as busy and still super fun. I agree though the vibes on powder days are weird theres a ton of people and they act like they are owed something or have the right to powder runs its just weird to me. The last 2 weeks temps have been awesome and theres been no lines I love spring skiing.

Some good old cold smoke pow is always fun to ride when its available but as the years have progressed, the whole powder douchery has grown with it. I remember many years back being at Alta and Targhee waiting in the lift line, granted we were all waiting to get onto a double chair but the whole atmosphere was a huge stoke for everyone! Everyone would be happy, talking with each other, vibes were high. Now its just a pissing match to who can get closer in line, to bitching about someone snaking their line. Vibes have changed dramatically, not a scene for me. I will take me some spring slush laps any day! The temps are usually better and everyones attitudes are so much better. The bumps are soft and like @freestyler540 I enjoy making peoples heads turn or getting some lift props from ripping them up. The beers always taste better and vibe is always upper level. Love me some spring laps.

the great thing about slush and corn snow is that most beginner skiers actually find it very hard to ski in. But if you are a good skier it's super easy to ski in. I always chuckle when people tell me about their horrible experience skiing soft, slushy snow, it happens pretty often. The type I and type II skiers are all about the perfectly smooth groomers with no bumps to catch your skis on.

but yeah I've watched bros almost get in a fight waiting in line for devils castle at alta. I skied death cookies all season at my local this year and didn't hear people complain about conditions once, everyone was just stoked to be skiing.

I’ll take ripping blue bird spring laps in slush any day over pow. New snow brings out the worst in skiers. Beer tastes better and falls are easier in the sun as well.

Same with everywhere but good thing with that spot is that nobody from the bay wants to come up when its sunny and gorgeous. If they can't kook around in powder with their go pro whats the point

People who don't ski much or most weekend warrior douches end up coming for February then kinda fuck off. Springs nice, its like a celebration of the season as a whole and a time where the more dedicated and locals all get to hang out together and enjoy the nice weather as a reward for butting up with the bone heads all winter. Vibes are immaculate this time of year.

The only pow days I really like are when its still puking snow and low visibility and its just you and your crew out in some crazy shit.

Springs skiing is always the best though. You dont have to get up early because the snow has to thaw, that park is soft and sendy and everywhere is just fun slush to mob around in. The only drawback to all this is the snow is so soft and fun you end up progressing a bunch then hit summer and have to try to bring it back in the fall.

Colorado in the spring can be either really great or a buzz kill. This year, its been kinda lame. We get a really warm day, then clouds for like 3 days, cold temps and only like 6 inches. Then warm again and then cloudy again. I get this can help to refill the base, but gimme slush at this point. not two inches on top of ice. Higher elevations are mostly fine because of the wind moving snow around(not getting warm), but I got my skis spring waxed for a reason.

Last week was all slush and park, today at Snowmass was 15" of blower and no one around. I love me some slushy park laps, but cmon, repeated over head blower pow is so rare that I'm def going Powder Day!

I mean the same people doing the same thing skiing the same lines are going to call it a day by 11am when it gets tracked out these types are gone by the afternoon. It can be fun to try and stay ahead of them all AM.

I don't chase powder on the East coast anymore though just doesn't work out and I can't wake up early enough. Daylight savings ending might change that. I do rip closed trails that have nice pow early season. But yeah if I am on vacation and there is fresh snow of course I am playing the game.

I've graduated from Epic/Ikon mountains so I don't really have issues with douchebaggery.
