Other sports have jokingly proposed leagues where you can be on whatever juice you want, but what if we did the opposite?

Hear me out- airbag and water-ramp free big air circuit. No doping tests but skiers are asked on a lie detector if they’ve trained on an airbag. Any evidence/footage of airbagging = permaban.

What skier has the biggest balls?? Will every athlete be out do to injuries??

Secret airbag training. Undercover agents searching for airbagging evidence. James bond shit. Quite possibly the most epic sports drama in history

Craziest thing is that Henrik would’ve been able to compete in this league if he hadn’t hit an airbag like twice (he said he hated it). Insane how good people used to get without the airbag.

i know i shouldn’t think this way but i got way less respect for people running up airbags and ESPECIALLY the Park City water ramps or whatever. Like if i see videos of water ramps on your instagram i’m gonna assume your parents dropped hella $$$ only for you to learn the same shit I did by simply not being a pussy.

The only place I can understand airbags are on the east coast where snow disappears fast and kids need help to keep up with the west coast jump skiers.

if you’re a comp skier i see the worth of it but if you’re not then what’s the point? i get that anyone would take the opportunity if they’re getting it from their parents but mane you don’t need a water ramp to learn rodeos and corks.

I personally can only hit soft, non-icy jumps for the last 3 weeks of the season. Also my hill doesn’t have a jump line so if you really want to learn you’re gonna hike. No way you’re gonna catch me learning flips on a 20-foot ice sculpture.

To add to the discussion here instead of just shitting on jems....

Airbags aren't going anywhere, they're very safe and help the best athletes learn insane tricks that would be borderline psycho to try without some sort of learning via an airbag or water ramp.

If you want to get rid of air bags, one of two things will happen: Everyone will get hurt much more often and have much more severe injuries or every comp will be stale with the same tricks because nobody can learn anything without getting broken off. We're past the days of doing a sw 10 and winning, you don't just chuck a dub cork 18 or triple cork 19 without at least doing some sort of air awareness learning on a tramp, water ramp or airbag.

would it exclude those who have trained on powdery back country jumps too?

from my experience, a landing with 3 feet of pow has been more comfortable to slam on than an airbag.

I feel like theres a difference between doing a woodward or water ramp session cause you want to learn a cork or something vs being part of an academy where you hit them multiple times a week as part of training. Maybe a better league would be the uncoachable league for all the homies that dont compete on a team and for runs to be judged more on creativity, style, uniqueness and overall impression. Itd be a good way to get noticed but not have just spin to win comp jocks

I love this idea. IMO freestyle skiing has gotten a little over the top crazy with some of the tricks, as things that are more technical in the total skiing element (such as moguls) have really waned in popularity. As it really took off I started to wonder how TF people were doing some of this stuff. So mind-boggling, but lacking entirely in technical skiing elements, then I learned it was all trampolines and now these "air bags". That said, what's crazy is the aerialists of the 90's (and today, just less popular) that presumably did all this stuff just on that crazy jump at the hill.
