Need ideas for training in the off season

I live in the Midwest so we don’t have year round skiing. Anyone have ideas for sports or activities that could help with balance or just my overall skiing skill?

I’m working on a plan for this, so far it includes a ton of stretching and strengthening hip flexors, squats, push/pull lower body and leg weight training, and lots of long hikes/trail runs with good elevation gain.

this is a rough outline but you should be able to make a workout that works for your body/schedule with those main parts.

mountain biking!!!! keeps ur mind in send mode, definitely helps with balance, get to shred down gnarly shit, and most mtb'ers also ski or board

Biking is indeed the shit. Not as fun as skiing but keeps me from offing myself in the summer

training is for jocks but if you want to stay fit and have fun just jump on trampolines and go skateboarding. maybe wrestle a pig every once and again

If you want to build air awareness by far the best way is trampolines and diving boards. It will dramatically help your air awareness and is a lot of fun.

Trampoline & rollerblading / aggressive inline / whatever you wanna call it. Different enough to keep things interesting and challenging, but also close enough to get the vibes.

I'm in the same boat as you, season's already over. I could never get good enough at things with wheels to get the same enjoyment I get from skiing.

I definitely second trampolines and backyard setups. Also want to add in tricking. Find a facility with pads or a spring floor and learn some sick trix. They're liable to have better trampolines too.

Cliff jumping off something like 15-20ft to keep that upside-down air awareness, i like tramp seshing too but cliff jumping has a little more of that fear factor like coming into a jump. Also probably less consequences if you know whats in the water and arent jumping from like 60ft

Oh man, throwing Lincoln Loops off the high dive is such an amazing feeling.

Lincoln Loop is definitely a skill. Here is the workflow:

1. Get really comfortable on the diving boards and jumping with your eyes level. Never look down at the board.
2. Do at least 10 min of solid straight air jumps keeping your eyes level and getting a solid pop.
3. Pick a point across the pool that is at eye level. At CU there was a clock so it worked out well.
4. Get a solid jump and as you raise in the air imagine your feet swinging up over your head while you drop the other shoulder down.
5. Make sure to keep an eyes on that single point of reference and let the world spin around that single point.

(You may find you rotate a 180 at the exit which is what usually happens to me)


Once you get comfortable work on throwing a Safety or Japan grab for extra steeze. Grabbing down with your right hand will help your rotation too.

Also, once you get good you can jump 90 deg and make it an under flip etc.

i have a giant fat pvc tube thats downhill and i put a big wooden box on right before it and just step on and have turf at the end of it and get a little bit of slush from the skating rink and its perfect for trying stuff on because you dont have much speed! can never go wrong with some astroturf and some pvc my man
