BigPurpleSkiSuitIt should be for everybody
MastePoleWhackerI have no problem with boarders but good luck dealing with the high t on a board
CrunnchyPissFartloves being afraid of snowboarders

MoneyMakerMikeAlta has so much traversing idk why a snowboarder would even want to ride there tbh
Craw_DaddyWhat in the fuck is this shit!!! please tell me there was a group of people waiting to beat his ass at the top.
ALTA IS FOR SKIERS
hoodratz47It's on public land let the knuckle draggers shred

dylholeYet the most snowboard-dominant mountain in the Wasatch is full of traversing... Anyone skiing Mary's/Rock Gardens 15+ years ago was very much in the minority on that traverse. Snowboarders figured out how to ride Brighton, they'd do the same at Alta. Let em ride it too, and let them (and skiers) set boot packs - that sidestepping nonsense is pure garbage.
eheatheveryone who says this hasn't ski at alta.
The amount of traversing you have to do at alta is not snowboarder friendly, sure there are plenty of runs they could ride without traversing, but there are also 8 other resorts within 60 mins of alta so it's really not that big of a deal.
I don't know a single snowboarder that cares they can't ride alta.
Way*Mo98% of the traversing at Alta is no more difficult or long that what’s at Snowbird.
Snowboards handle that fine and enjoy the terrain.
Alta would be mad fun on a snowboard. I’d argue much of the terrain is actually suited better for a board than skis in comparison to someplace like Snowbird.
Let them in.

armchair_skierAlta is for pussies because there’s no park

Way*MoThere used to be. Haha. Former Alta park crew alum.
@LANTASKIAlta is the skiing equivalent of Augusta National. Its hallowed ground. The spirit of the sport lives within its boundaries. No other resort embodies the ethos and "IDEAL (In the classical sense) of our sport than Alta. Snowboarding would ruin everything that makes it special.

Way*MoFuck your ‘hallowed ground’. You sound like a giant bell end.
skiing is meant to be fun and irreverent, not exclusionary. We’re sliding around on frozen water on glorified popsicle sticks.
Plus count me out of wanting to be associated with Augusta National, the country club that wouldn’t accept black members until 1990. Fuck them the most.
SofaKingSickdo you notice that you can't offer any real-life reasons for banning snowboarding, and have to just give vague platitudes about "ethos" and "IDEAL" (and reference a golf course that didn't allow black people until the 90s)?
what would snowboarding "ruin" for you?

Craw_DaddyIdk if you've ever seen snowboarders but the bad ones tend to plow large swaths of snow down the mountain on their back edge and make runs icy. how do you not know this?? I'm also not sure what the problem is with excluding snowboarders at a few mountains. like shit they can have a mountain that's snowboard only if they want. I don't care.
There are already plenty of snowboard-only events, even at shitty east coast mountains. I see snowboard only stuff all the time. There used to be ski only events like nine knights that now have snowboarding and it seems that they want to be included in everything related to skiing but don't have any interest in being inclusive themselves. At the end of the day, what is wrong with making something exclusive? I don't cry about not being allowed to ski in snowboard-only parks and events.
Craw_DaddyMt Hood is public land too. That didnt stop high cascade diggers from throwing rakes at skiers that tried to come through their park back in the day. Lots of snowboarders are super cunty towards skiers so they can all just stay the hell out of Alta.

SofaKingSickhaha dude, bad skiers and snowboarders both scrape snow. likewise, there are both douchebag snowboarders (e.g. the high cascade guys who permanently hurt your feelings apparently) and douchebag skiers (e.g. you, skierman, guys named tad). nothing about any of this is specific to the gear
and skiers and snowboarders having their own events is not analogous to banning from mtns but i think you know that and just want to list things to pretend your position on this isn't 100% emotion-based
Craw_Daddyokay and how many bad skiers do you see trying to pizza down a chute or off a cliff? Bad skiers stick to groomers, dudebro boarders who ride a few times a year will gladly let their egos go unchecked and side swipe all the snow off shit they shouldn't be riding in the first place.
And I'm giving you concrete examples of skier exclusion and your counter argument is that I just have hUrT fEeLiNgS and I'm being EmOtIoNaL. It absolutely is comparable to being banned from a mountain and I would actually argue that it's worse because if I pay for a pass to a mountain then I should be able to ride the park there when I go. There are far more snowboard only events than skier only events. You claiming that my logical argument is emotion based doesn't invalidate it. It is a fact that mountains hold snowboard only events. It is a fact that snowboarding attracts a demographic of people who are less risk averse and thus more willing to ride places they shouldn't be, and it is a fact that your mom is a whore.
ALTA IS FOR SKIERS
SofaKingSickshitty skiers and boarders do dumb stuff all the time, i really doubt you have quantitative evidence behind your claim that snowboarders are worse about it in a way that justifies banning from mountains. you're just going with your gut and that's why i'm saying it's an emotional response
and again, snowboard-only events and some snowboarders not being inclusive to skiers does not have anything to do with banning other snowboarders from entire mountains, you're just describing a chip on your shoulder so again, it's an emotional argument
i'm not saying that to tease you, i'm saying it's only going to be convincing to people who already share your "snowboarders are hooligans" feeling based on anecdotes
Craw_DaddyRight. It's more of a general observation made from a lifetime of skiing than a gut feeling but I get ur point. I'd be more open to snowboarders riding at Alta if they started letting skiers ride at holy bowly, supernatural, and super park. That would honestly suck though because those events are important to snowboard culture and watering them down with skiers for the sake of "inclusion" would be lame just like letting boarders ride at Alta would be lame.
I cant understand why people like you want to blend everything together. The argument for doing that is just as much of a "gut feeling" emotional argument as the argument for not doing it. Letting snowboarders ride there wouldnt be an objectively good thing. It is not the same thing as denying someone with accability issues the chance to ride there. If you can snowboard then you can also ski. Why is it so objectively wrong to let us have our separate cultures instead of blending everything together?
Way*Mo“Let us have our separate cultures” has serious bigoted tones.
Way*Mo“Let us have our separate cultures” has serious bigoted tones.
And if we’re going with a ‘lifetime’ of observations, snowboarders have been equally if not more accepting, more fun, and generally better stewards of sliding on snow than skiers in my experience. And I grew up in LCC.
Also access to events is not comparable to access of an entire mountain that sits on National Forest Service land. There are plenty of ski only events also.
You just generally sound like a ‘type III’ skier who grew up with your inbred family telling you snowboards were the devil and you drank all the kool-aid.
Go take your shaped skis to Deer Valley if you’re so concerned about preserving your version of ski culture.

@LANTASKIDeer Valley is like the TPC Sawgrass of Skiing, where its impressive but overly manicured and lacking soul and substance. It's still cool, but it aint Augusta
@LANTASKISnowsports bigotry is not a thing LMAO...its disrespectful to actual people that have had to face REAL RACISM like Jim Crow- which thankfully we as a nation have put behind us
Craw_Daddyokay and how many bad skiers do you see trying to pizza down a chute or off a cliff?
Craw_DaddyDoes it? I think you're just making an emotional argument. What do you think @SofaKingSick ??
ALTA IS FOR SKIERS
Way*MoAnd in our small snow sliding sphere of the world, banning snowboarders from federally public lands also sucks.
Craw_DaddyPeople are not banned from public land... the land is leased by Alta and everyone is free to go there as long as they purchase a lift ticket and use skis. It works just like other ski areas that operate within national forests. I can't get mad if Abasin kicks me out for riding a tube down their slopes. They are in the Arapahoe national forest but they lease the land from the government and they make the rules for the land they lease.
