Vail Resorts Raising Minimum Wage To $20

They say that they'll address compression but they didn't the last time they did raises. I had leads making just a fraction more than regular handcrew guys and I never saw a substantial raise like the entry levels guys did.

It'll be interesting how this all plays out but shame on them for waiting this long to address this.

Also this is just gonna put pressure on independent resorts to raise wages when they can't afford to do so and then Vail is just gonna buy fucking everything after all the independent resorts employees leave and the smaller resorts can't run with no employees.

Unless just no one works at Vail cuz fuck Vail but i think a decent amount of people will cave for $

GrandThingsI mean 20x8x5x52 does equal 41k, but this is still a part-time, non-year round position. Those college kids are actually becoming FTE's with benefits packages etc.

My problem is really just Vail paying their employees more simply to try and take over more independent resorts. Vail doesn't actually care about their employees that much, what they want is to become a bigger corporate power with no competition so they can just control the market of skiing.

PeteMahnAs stated above if this was done before COVID great. That being said it wasn't, so thanks to all the dipshit liberals who don't understand economics and think you can shut the country and world down and turn the economy on and off like a switch. 20 an hour is the new 15 an hour with how bad inflation is hitting and it will only get worse. The Fed lied about inflation a year ago and they were called out but turned their cheek and pretended everything was fine. By next year the purchasing power of the dollar will be a fraction compared to before Covid. "Inflation is Transitory" hahahaha.

The ski industry is pretty small compared to everything else. This is a direct response to literally not having enough employees to staff positions. Rent is insane in many ski towns.

But yeah, they should have kept the wages at 12 an hour, had no employees, not even had the mtns running so asshats could toss tell us more about how fox and friends views economics.

People takes on this are so shot I'm actually impressed.

"Wages shouldn't be ____. The market dictates what wages should be". The market shows these wages to be straight trash, fast food has been paying up for years, every job in these towns has been paying more. Vail finally pays more. Same people mad.

PeteMahnLet's skip the inflation problem then. The main problem is most Vail employee's are either complete morons or they care to much which is why they will never strike and boycott Vail. That's how real change will happen and everybody knows it so it's not worth discussing.

The issue about striking ( which I've had this conversation with ton's of Vail employee's ) is that many of the employee's were there before Vail moved in and fucked everything. There's so many ski patrollers that were working at Park City, Breckenridge etc before Vail moved in so they still think of their job as working for the mountain and not Vail. They care to much about the mountain, the people, the history etc so deep down they don't want to strike. These are noble, moral individuals who care to much about others which hurts themselves. Vail knows they can keep screwing these employee's because they won't quit or strike.
So at this point it's always going to be a stand still with one side versus another and in the end there will never be a monumental change. I pray I see the day Vail employee's strike during Christmas break. That being said this wage increase is better than nothing but to be devils advocate with prices surging it will do little.
