So I’m doing my first slopestyle and rail jam on Sunday. What would be some advice and tricks that could win in the air and on rails?

I mean the real question is what is in ur arsenal. Just make sure not to grab mute like the rest of the sell out comp skiers. Try throwing rodeos while grabbing a tweaked safety/blunt. Throw some tail press rail tricks in there. Stand out from the rest of the comp jocks

I won my “rail jam” last weekend by front flipping over the box that everyone else was grinding lmao. My advice would to be try to stand out from the rest of the competition

Some advice I’d give you for comp skiing in general:

-Slopestyle will be 2 runs (usually), first run do tricks you know you can land so you can put a score down, if you land that run then try and do some gnarlier stuff you don’t have as dialed for the second run.

- for rail jams and slopestyle judges like to see variety, do stuff regular, switch, unatty, ect. This will show you’re a well rounded skier.

- separate yourself from the competition, don’t do the same tricks as everyone else, get your grabs dialed and keep your trick selection all over the place so you stand out from the crowd.

- don’t go so hard at practice that you’re tired for the comp (you’d be surprised how common that was to see). Get warmed up and get comfortable with the course but don’t go crazy.

-have fun, it’s corny but if you aren’t having fun at comps then why tf are you competing? Don’t sweat it if you crash or don’t do as well as you hoped, it’s part of the journey- we all had to pay our dues.

I’m in a 15-16 age bracket. Would a front 6 out of a low cannon be an automatic win?

Lol Fr, one thing people don’t understand is style plays a bigger part than people realize, you can do a really clean 540 with a solid grab and beat out an un-grabbed washy 900. Judges like to see unique grabs and really solid grabs- none of that boot touching shit.

And OP one trick won’t win you anything, don’t ever bank an entire run on landing one trick, judges will be looking at the whole run. There’s probably gonna be a lot of stock 4’s 6’s getting thrown- a back 4 with a grab will still beat and penciled 6.


also forgot to tell you about the “switch run”, if you put down a great first score and you’re feeling yourself then do the entire second slopestyle run switch- each trick has to take off switch and land switch top to bottom. Even if it’s not super tech it’ll usually score well enough cause of how G it is, a good judge will respect it.

Proud to say I won my only slopestule comp I ever did with a sw3 to zero and a sw lip f2 to a sw lip to switch
