Bit of a weird one, but soon I have to do a research paper for my degree and part of that is coming up with a topic in an area of interest to investigate then report over a 12 month period. For me, that's leaning towards brain injuries/CTE in the context of action sports (obviously including skiing).
Obviously the understanding of CTE is evolving, and the knowledge of how many minor knocks over time can lead to consequences just as back as a few big ones over many years. My idea, stemming from this, is impact indicators on helmets - something that demonstrates that you have received a knock large enough to potentially cause minor damage and that perhaps you should have a few days off, but that instead you can simply ski off. I'm thinking some sort of modified version of those you might have seen on Mythbusters etc., both as an indicator that you may have caused damage to your brain, but also that it might be time to replace the helmet.
My question for NS is, what would you think of these? Obviously this kind of thing might appeal more to the family crowd, but if you saw your mate (who might have one of these on his helmet) has set if off, would you call him out, or laugh it off?
Obviously very early days with this idea, but let me know your thoughts.
Cheers guys
