PC is getting rid of the 3 kings lift after this season

The park wasn't open till nearly January and its basically had the same features since and the big line sucks megalodon sized dick

They pay their patrollers less than the burger king down the street while a PBR is $15

what up newschoolers its been a long time, things have changed like the cartilage in my knees, but the endless fuck skiing posts have not so lfg fuck vail skiing is dead. It's gonna be at least 2 seasons according to what I've been hearing.

The new Eagle lift is gonna be a 6 pack and have a midstation above the 3 kings park, eagle will also go to the top of King Con now, so you could lap neffland and 3 kings in the same lap.

PC has tons of redundant lifts and Vail can't staff them all, this is part of their solution for staffing issues, eliminating lifts that aren't necessary. I don't agree with it but I understand it.

But honestly, if you don't like PC/Vaiil, go to brighton or woodward, I wouldn't expect things to get any better at PC, been hearing a lot of negative rumors about the future of the park.

anecdotal but I spoke with a park crew member and they told me it's going down this summer, they also have a big sign at the bottom of first time that says "new lift 2022"

Unless major terrain changes take place (not sure where or how they'd implement) you'll be skiing down the shittiest cat track on the mountain that never has snow just for a "lap" through the park. The traffic will be insane, and what is normally a 10 minute run will be 30 ish+ minutes, not including the massive lift lines the new lift will more than likely have.

Sure, take out some of the redundant lifts like eaglet or whatever the fuck lift on canyons side, but 3 Kings is anything but a redundant lift lol.

Yeah I mean its certainly possible they try to execute the plan as early as possible, which is a bummer because the park having its own lift is awesome.

I doubt eagle will have a huge lift line and the lap could possibly be just as fast as it is now, the mid station will be below gotcha's, you'll only take that run if you ride neffland too. Im guessing they will be making some sort of changes/adding more snowmaking to that run so it will be operational. Lots of stuff has to happen, which is why the people I've been talking to are thinking its a couple years out.

eaglet doesn't run so it not redundant, you could take eagle and get to the top of 3 kings from the current mid station very easily if they moved one fence which is why it will be redundant and 3-5 less employees is a huge deal as well.

I've been skiing PC since 2007, it does suck to see it go down this way but not much we can do, woodward is the new spot.

I think we are on the downward side of the terrain park’s life in ski history. Ski areas, especially Vail owned ones, have to be doing value studies and wondering if building and maintaining parks are worth it? Grooming, park crews? Does it sell passes? I think the glory days are over.

lol instead of hiring more staff lets just replace 2 lifts with one. right on par with vail: spend money on lifts not employees

Idk what tf Vail is doing with Kirkwood at this point... like why did they buy a mountain known for amazing terrain for local shredders in the middle of nowhere with no village or any real way to extort money from rich families? Like the family base area has been a "temporary" tent for almost 10 years. Lmao, makes no sense.

I think the only reason they make a pipe anymore is for the usasa events theyre committed to and an 18ft pipe is much cheaper to build than a 22ft.

I think you are right. Its a good setup though, even took a spin through it today. Tbh that jib pipe at the top next to the rail section is kinda fun to mess around in but that lower one just above the 18' should be moved up a bit, its a wonky inrun for the 18 and presents crowding issues. My buddy whose a pipe coach told me that woodys has a 22' but its short so theres that at least.


and as far as the topic at hand here. That whole base area of PC is due for a development honestly. Its just too crowded down there and too much of a junkshow in the mornings with ski school, ski teams, adaptive sport programs, and thousands of guests all converging onto the lifts. PC has always been pained by awful chokepoints and yeah it'll be weird to see but people are done with taking forever to get around in the mornings. Also this might be the worst traffic has ever been but the new plan that was recently implemented does help somewhat. That should be addressed front and center. We're over hour-long red snakes from lowell ave. to US-40

I don’t think this is necessarily true. Vail is definitely caring less abt parks but vail fucks everything up. Like look at Woodward parks and there’s so many smaller resorts with nice ass parks

dog park riding peaked 10 years ago lol. Literally the only park that has gotten better ANYWHERE in the world is Woodward Copper. I guess you could argue that Mammoth is just as good as always. Then you got Breck, Keystone, Park City, Big Boulder, Mt. Snow, all looking like a rotting decomposing body compared to what it used to be.

PCs park looks pretty good, not sure what OP means when hes talking bad about it, but it looks just as good as it has been for the last 5 years.

Not saying the park is bad currently, just that it’s clear the effort to maintain it is marginally smaller than previous years. Many days of the season the lift is just closed, assuming due to lack of staffing- which is due to vails shitty wages in the most expensive part of the state. The features used to get swapped on a weekly basis, we’ve probably seen 1 switch up this entire season. Also the second jump is cracked. Also why can’t I delete threads anymore tf lol take it down

Never been to PC as I don't go to vail resorts anymore, but def seems like its going downhill in terms of park, which is true of most vail resorts

I wouldn't say downgrade in quality at all. Ive grown up lapping three kings and have seen tons of setups throughout the years and I would say the parks are actually still holding up pretty well and there is always people lapping on any given weekday, and there are decent amounts of competitions throughout the season, so there is definitely interest in park riding here. And most of those skiers don't really give a shit because they're hot lapping with their friends.

To sell epic passes to aging "hard chargers" who have a family now. Dad wants Squaw or Mammoth, mom and the kids want something like Heavenly or Northstar. Putting Kirkwood on the pass brought their money to vail.

As a pipe noob I love 18 footers. I tried a flair in copper's super pipe and hurt my thumb, didn't hit the pipe again the rest of the trip. The little 12 footer at the top of Woodward Express is fun but a little too small to learn new things. Winter Park has an 18 footer which seems the perfect size, but the placement makes one wall shear ice and the other gets slushy and uneven. I wish the west had more quarter pipes or especially those quarterpipe/hip features where you take off on a vert but land on a regular landing

I guess you could argue maybe Crested Butte is the equivalent for this in Colorado. But they got nothing for Utah.. they only have Park City.

I feel like appealing to people who will only choose to ski at a place with extreme terrain is not really their MO. Besides, Heavenly has Mott and Killebrew and Northstar is going to expand into Sawtooth ridge and Lookout mountain, opening a lot more steep terrain. You'd think making a new chairlift for extreme terrain and promoting that, would be more cost effective than buying an entire resort. No... Vail doesn't care to appear to extreme skiers. They want the biggest slice of the general populous as possible. Maybe dad hit double blacks back in the day, but now that he's got a family, he prefers the predictability Northstar offers. The people too stubborn to realize that are outliers. You don't make money from outliers.

Damn I've been skiing three kings for 10+ years now, that's sad to read. But if they really take out 3 kings then taking eagle up instead absolutely cannot be slower than three kings. If it's in the slightest less efficient and not as fast then the people will not have it.

Mount snow used to literally rebuild the entire park (Gulch, Nitro, Inferno, Prospector, Fools Gold) every single week, plus a 22 foot pipe. There wasn’t a week in the early 2010s where the park looked the same as the previous week. Idk about any western mountains but mount snow went from best parks in probably the entire country to like, stagnant runs with like 6 jibs a run and no jumps greater than 40 feet. It’s literally a corpse of what it used to be its incredibly depressing honestly.

Yeah that sucks for sure, PC doesn't rebuild jumps unless they get really melted out, but the last 5+ years theyd change the park pretty often, it just depends on the snowpack at PC.

Park quality may have peaked 10 years ago but the community of park skiing is definitely bigger than ever today and is still growing becoming more popular. A lot of the old heavy hitters that were known for parks may be going to the shitter, especially thanks to vail, but as a result other mountains like Killington and other Powdr resorts parks are becoming better than ever. The dynamic of where has the best parks is changing completely but I think park skiing is very much more alive than ever community wise and good terrain parks are still being made and improved upon by various mountains and companies.

Get rid of lifts and build new lifts because payong people a dollar more an hour is just impossible.

I know they raised their wages up finally but VR is such a shitty company. I'm surprised they still have some decent parks. Knew some people that bailed on keystone this year because it was going downhill.

Northstar and PC and maybe Mt Snow are about the only places building shit it seems.

Pay shit wages, offer nothing, place full of shit corporste rules, "Idk why nobody wants to work here, guess they're just lazy".

Anything about the ski industry that made it fun enough to deal with shit wages is dead, most of the perks are dead.

For a while Vail was paying competitive wages for the ski industry which isnt saying much but ticket price went up, things got shittier and more corporate, wages barely have gone up in the last 10 years.

Company is terrible. Hoping some of the smaller places survive.

The number of dope events and events in general definitely has declined significantly for sure. I was around for the last 3 west coast sessions and grew up on rails 2 riches. I’m just arguing that there is more of a park community around the world then ever and greater numbers of park skiers than ever.

I wouldnt say they change it every day, they take input from the riders beforehand, they just have tons of shit setup.

Guess that would make sense. I mainly remember that in 2018, the Winter Park guys were using cats every night and did change things up a lot more. Probably dumb to generalize that to every year/mountain

I mean i was there, they didn't "change" anything they just build tons of shit, not sure where you're getting the idea they changed anything and why that relates to this thread at all, the mountain is shutdown and its only built for SU.
