Help with centre-mounted skis

Okay so long story short: A couple of years ago I bought some K2 poachers. For the mounting point I chose the ‘park and pipe recommended’ option. When I received the skis they were mounted dead centre. I’ve heard a lot of people ski the poachers at dead centre, so i thought it wouldn’t be that much of a problem. However, I find it very hard to hold an edge and feel like i’m not 100% in control of the ski. My question is: is there anything I can change about my skiing as opposed to skiing in a traditional mounting position, or should I just get them remounted and call it a day?

Are the edges detuned?

Also, you’ve got to ski a center mounted ski more centered. Can’t drive the tip hard because it’s shorter and you have less effective edge in front of your toe

Not that I know of. However I do notice a lack of stopping power and inability to put enough pressure on the ski. It could also be an issue with my boots or the ski shop doing a shit job at sharpening my edges.

As far as I know I’m keeping a centered stance but since with ‘normal’ carving skis you need to keep that forward pressure maybe I need to lean back a bit more on these ones?



At the end of the day when the slopes have turned into a field of bumps is like hell to me now lmao

Maybe the ski is wider than you’re used to? Did you ask them to prep the ski for rails or anything? What’s the ski?

I have some wider skis with a higher base bevel and it takes me a second to get used to going from those to some 100 underfoot skis with a 1/1 edge

Idk I have more edge control on center mounts. My best race time was on a pair of centered nomads

Looks like you are comparing park skis to race skis or something. No park ski will hold an incredible edge, They have less effective edge than a carving ski

Yeah I think you’re right, this in combination with the bootfitter I went to fucking up…

Shit almost made me think I lost all of my skiing ability during the pandemic..

Not necessarily how my edges feel, but I feel like I can’t put enough power on the ski because of them.

I’m a K2 simp. Literally the only brand I’ve skied since 1988. I love how they ski. Quiet and damp. BUT, I tried Poachers a season ago….. and truly hated them! Mounted same place OP did. Just couldn’t get the feel. Couldn’t turn them. They felt so stiff too. I’ve loved every K2 I’ve owned(lots). But the Poacher just wasn’t for me. Ebayed them and got Marksman and was happy again.
