I need some icefishing tips for catching pike. I can catch a bunch of them but sometimes when I hookset from the tip up it doesn't work. Is that just luck?
when you get to the tip-up slowly take it out of the hole and pinch the line with your other hand so the fish cant feel you taking the tipup from the hole. then slowly grab the line with your hand and sloooowly start taking line out until you feel some resistance and set the hook like a G. if you have any question PM or quote me, i'm an ice fishing NUT. i'm probably the last one ice fishing in my state year after year hunting for some safe ice /claim

yes it has a flag and pops up once a fish is on the line most common bait is minnows
If you’re interested in pike through the ice, look into dark house spearing. You use a decoy and a spear and it can be highly productive. To me it seems a lot more fun than using a tip-up. Make sure it’s legal in your state.

Fishing for carp is fun in the summer. i catch them on corn straight from a can like you would be when catching stocked trout in the spring, which is soon cant wait for greenery and trout catching in the early morning

I shoot them with a bowfishing rig. Asian carp are invasive and it’s a whole lot of fun shooting them.
You need to make sure you give them enough time. I have watched a lot of pike on camera take the bait, and just hold it in their mouth for a bit. Where are you fishing OP?

I did this once in Illinois and it was so fun. They have a super gnarly problem in the Mississippi and it was crazy, we just rode down this stretch of river and they were jumping out of the water everywhere
