Storm is currently losing power... but it should still be pretty sick. If Taos gets enough snow then everything but lift 1 will be closed at first, then lift 2 will open, then likely West Basin, Highline Ridge, Lift 4, then Kachina peak in that order (or close to that order). Love it or hate it its a steep, avy prone resort with a unstable snowpack so things take time to open after a big storm. I like it personally bc you get first tracks a few times all across the mountain but it definitely pisses some people off.

Snow at Taos is very elevation dependent and can get pretty wind loaded/scoured and also fill in chutes really nicely. There are a million fun lines at Taos but generally speaking stay high, stay in the shade, and explore the hidden corners for the best snow.

Last big storm a million and a half Coloradoans came south to chase the storm and made Taos way more crowded than its usual empty chutes. This storm looks like it'll favor Wolf Creek and Crested Butte more so hopefully we don't have that again. (I'm not a huge localist type of guy, but Taos simply can't handle half of summit county and I-70 corridor showing up all at once).

Parking at Lift 4 is a better vibe but the access road WILL have accidents if there is fresh snow. Orlando's is the best (cheapish) New Mexican food in town. Best beer is anything from La Cumbre. The Super 8 in town is wack as fuck and they sell beer and liquor at Smith's. Rio Grande Gorge bridge is worth a stop after skiing. Lock your car bc NM is kinda sus with crime in general.

WINTER STORM OAKLEE moved into the Southern Rockies on Tuesday February 22, 2022 and the boys and I headed down through South Colorado Taos Ski Valley Bound! We hung around in Taos, New Mexico for 2 more days dining on tasty Mexican cuisine and DEEP Fresh Powder Snow. Thursday 2/24/22 was a STELLAR Day for riding with well over a foot of the good stuff.
The West Basin Ridge at Taos Ski Valley is INSANE! Just a quick Hike to the tippy top, click on your skis, and pick your line! Perilous Descents and Glorious Snowfields await the Bold.
For the Daring be sure to wear a helmet and try to ski and ride in control. We were riding with avalanche beacons just in case an inbounds slide occurs Ski Patrol can have a chance of helping dig us out. Be careful out there and Have fun!!
