A First in Park Skiing History

Women's big air was far more entertaining than the men's big air event. Despite 98% of the coverage of the women's event being interrupted by commercials, it had me gripped until the very end with women throwing down first tries, endless steezy dubs and attempting insane new tricks. With the men's, I stopped watching after Colby Stevenson's and Henrik's last runs and didn't care for anyone else. The rest was boring shit.


I'm certain the core skiers of this site will agree while the rest of you pathetic, sexist gapers will disagree but its the truth.

The final run format was sick, it also seemed like they loaded all the commercials onto the first two runs so we could watch most of the last round uninterrupted. The last 3-4 hits actually had me on the edge of my seat

Honestly, he has a point. So many damned 18's. It's like a big air contest from a decade ago when every single trick was a switch 10. Although those that showed a little more creativity made the podium, so that's cool.

i think it was the emotion that makes this true.

watching the xgames mens big air was more entertaining than the olympics because of the controversy, the hype, we saw some newer riders throw down some new tricks, the timed format, crazy slams (luckily no one was seriously injured), we saw the riders' characters. it was more a personal experience from the viewers perspective, it felt like i was there, going through the emotions with them. i didnt get the same feeling from the olympic mens big air. i felt closer to the action in womens big air.

I also agree, this event did 2 things for me. 1 made me realize that 18s and 19s get boring AF when the guys are throwing them over and over and over again. I found new joy from the first trys and the lower degree tricks that I can actually find and take in the trick for what it is. stomped tricks by females and steeze spins are so much more satisfying. And 2 eileen gu is hot af

fuck yeah, that was my favorite trick hands down, I hope we get to see similar cool tricks in the slope events.
The men event didn't really have any surprises, it was all tricks we knew those guys have, women event was better entertainment for sure, they pushed harder imo.

Pretty crazy that TJ Schiller got closer to the top of the 2010 big air, or I think he got a 50, with a dub 16 in 2010. Eileen wins with a dub 16 this year. I guess that means women's skiing 'caught up' to men's skiing in 2010, 12 years later. (shout out dub 16!) Of course, i realize this an oversimplification because skiing in general has just changed a whole lot, both men and women, but progression will move quicker and quicker, and maybe in 5-6 years it could like be all in the same comp 🤔

As for the men's comp, I was very stoked though. It wasn't as hectic as X Games on the whole, but Colby's switch 18 cuban is like beyond words, maybe the most impressive air I've ever seen. The way the slow mo shows him capping to the very end, like how do you cap CUBAN for that long in a switch 18. Also, I've gotten to appreciate more and more Henrik's safety grabs, they are just super G.

Can't believe I'm seriously replying to a skierman post must be pretty bored hahaha

I can agree. It’s tough to count the spins in mens it’s aerials. I havent seen any Goepper screamin seamans or Henrik style butters in womens but theyre going bigger.

remember 5-10 years ago they were doing 540s because they wanted to “keep it simple”… much better now.

the womens skateboarding comp in summer games was fuckin stellar too. They may not be on same level but its great seeing progression in womens game
