Michigan_SucksYeah you're right, the US government is bad. However the CCP is straight up dystopian future evil.
NoahsArkSo where do you draw the line? How many more horrific acts should the US commit before you say any athlete that competes for the US is a scumbag?
Farmville420This thread is insane, you’re all pawns, stop fighting, be friends. Imagine if I blamed Alex hall for bombing innocent children in the Middle East because he reps the US? Or Nick Goepper for destabilizing South American governments and funding rebel groups and coups? That would be whack as fuck honestly…
BiffbarfThe line usually begins and ends where a nation treats its citizens as sovereign instead of property of the state.
NoahsArkOk so every thing else the US has done is not bad enough?

Professor-ModeloYou should move to Baghdad, where hopefully you would be executed quickly
NoahsArkFunny you bring up Baghdad. Wonder who had their hands in that mess? (Hint: It wasn’t China)
Professor-ModeloI never said the USA hasn’t don’t gnarly shit forever. But the fact that kids like you dickride China sickens me. YOU CAN MOVE AWAY BITCH! Go move there and get a factory job. You’ll love it!
montanaskier420no ones saying that its just weird to go so hard after china when ur own country has just as many issues domestically, its the olympics just let people watch sports without the politics

SlowbroGoepper does do that in his time off, do you follow his Instagram?
skeirmanI wonder what the deal is with her citizenship. China does not allow dual citizenship (surprise). So she either gave up her American citizenship, or China is doing her special favors. When a reporter asked her about it, she fully dodged the question.
Professor-ModeloHave you ever watched espn, or any other sports network for more than 2 consecutive hours and not heard ANY political bullshit? If so, let me know because I’d love to make that a part of my regular programming
RudyGarmischI’m just going to point out how hilarious this is. You guys are complaining about how bad China is to oppress its people, censor and destroy individualism… but you don’t have the balls to post it with your actual account, so you’re using an ALIAS to hide your identity. 10/10 NS.
BiffbarfClassic clq
CLQClassic biffbarf, gets proved wrong and just stops posting for a day or two hahaha. You dont even try to argue, you just stay rooted in your ways and hope people forget about how much of a dumbass you are

*TURBONERD*This is copied and pasted from another thread - both the link and my description of its contents - but is equally relevant to anybody interested in delving deeper into the topic than is really possible on an internet forum (particularly one that isn't exactly focused on geopolitics).

I haven't seen many, if any, citations from people here. I've included some before, but this is a comprehensive piece that I think drives home the points I've been trying to make and is as well-documented as you could expect from anything aside from an academic journal. It's long, which is unfortunate, but this is rather dense subject matter so I think it's warranted, and it's certainly a better use of time than reading this thread. If you give it a read and still have criticisms, I'd love to see some replies, or people to shoot me a DM if they'd prefer a private conversation.
Professor-ModeloDid you really just pat yourself on the back from citing a source from THAT website. That could be the single most partisan website I’ve seen in my life
*TURBONERD*Read the article, check the sources, and say something about the article rather than the platform.

Professor-ModeloI’m not reading a 10 page article defending the Chinese government on a site whose sole existence is based on defending communism 😂😂😂
BiffbarfI'll read the article but correct me if I'm wrong most sources are opinion pieces?
*TURBONERD*That's fine, but you don't get to choose both willful ignorance and credibility.
*TURBONERD*Read the article, check the sources, and say something about the article rather than the platform.
Professor-ModeloYeah, you just cited an article that is comprised of mostly opinion pieces, and I’m “willfully ignorant”…. You are one dumb, dumb fuck
gravelthat's a miss, being critical of platform/publisher/author/etc is just as important as being critical of the content
*TURBONERD*I'll bite again, I guess. Opinion pieces can be used to paint a picture of an overarching narrative, and I will quite happily read any source you can provide on Uyghur genocide, including far-right sources like the Drudge report, because I'm not willfully ignorant and am instead open to engaging with material that ostensibly contradicts my position instead of outright dismissing it. If you'd read the piece, though, you'd know that among the citations the article includes that aren't opinion pieces are retractions from some of the very first outlets reporting on this.
Edit: removed repetition of "though" in the closing sentence and added a comma.
That's a fair criticism. My dismissal was as offhanded as the post I was replying to, and that was a mistake on my part. Criticizing bias of platform/publisher/author is a reasonable expectation, but I don't think it should be the sole reason for dismissing a piece without clear documentation of consistently publishing falsehoods. I wouldn't dismiss an Economist piece out of hand because I don't agree with their ideological stance, and that's essentially what's this was in response to. It just seems to be going one way in this immediate context - I don't see anybody engaging with my criticism of US outlets' consistent support for US intervention based on pretenses that the same outlets later debunk. I apologize if that was in another related thread - anybody can DM me if it's not this one and I can send you a quick list to avoid accidentally reposting it.

eheathOP, as far as I know from the athletes I know, they support Eliene. She is pushing the sport to a whole new level and is challenging every women's skier to perform at their highest level, competition is great for the sport and I think most pros aren't taking a political view on this situation. It's not like a controversial country hasn't been involved with skiing (russia) for decades...
@LANTASKIe heath we both og Blood brothers from the heady days of NS in the early 2000s but you have got to stop whiteknighting for her
shes doesnt even ski pow bro
you think shes ever watched IDEA
You think she knows about Gregg Tuffelmeir, and Nick Mercon and Omar?
You think shes ever watched Blunt or Burgertime or even Happy Dayz??
She is anathema to everything this sport was founded on
BiffbarfNobody's arguing that the US's historically atrocious foreign policy is any good I don't think. And it is very important for everyone to understand the lengths our government will go for it's interests against the public's will (gulf on tonkin, bay of pigs are great examples). As I stated before here or somewhere else, soverignty of the individual citizen or lack thereof seems to be what's criticized the most.
mrk127Yea I don't get why she would wanna support fuckin china when she would be at the top of the US team
