How long did it take you to learn to nose butter?

I’m 180 cm tall. I ride 177cm fully rockered skis. I have been trying to nose butter all season. Would it be easier to nose butter with a longer ski ? How long did it take you to learn to nose butter. I’m talking a nose butter to 180. On a Slight slope, roller anything. I can 180’with ease. I can do it pretty clean with poles helping with balance. But without them the butter, I can’t maintain.

Just huck it. I still sort of just got them but I face planted a lot but you’ll find the balance. Helps to keep your feet together

When you started to get them, where you popping then rotating or just kinda carving in and pushed your chest forward? Also is it easier to do on rollers? I’ve never tried in rollers maybe that’s easier ?

I kind of just spin on flat. Try to just 360 on flat ground until you get used to that.

what I do is just go straight, start to spin then at 90 I flex into my tips hard then finish the butter on my tips. It’s a weird balance thing but you’ll get it. Wanna get better off jumps

A little heel lift is ok. But if you go to butter and all you feel is heel lift then there’s an issue.

That was helpful - just watched the video and read the thread - one question. I assume you’re detuned underfoot, but do you detune the tips as well to help with butter or no?

Never had an issue with catching edge due to sharpness of edges when buttering. Keep in mind if you're buttering correctly, there is a lot of force going through the ski and it's pretty hard to stop that. If you did catch an edge while in a butter, it wouldn't flip you sideways, it would just accelerate you spinning around since you're balancing on a pivot point if that makes sense. Also it's just difficult in general to butter on ice or in hella chunder. Groomed knuckles with grippy snow are the best and easiest IMO.

I am a bit taller than you and my skis are a bit shorter than yours, so ski length is not your issue. Maybe your skis are too stiff?

Carving in is the easier way, I believe. I started on some gradients, but not steep. Speed helps to butter actually, it's really difficult if you are going super slow. Focus on keeping the skis together, the only way to hurt yourself is if you let them go different ways :)

The provided link and video have pretty much all of the advice I have used myself so just check them over and over. Probably the biggest mistake I was making initially was bending at the waist, you really need to activate the core and lean the whole body, waist up does nothing.

having soft skis def makes it easier. you dont have get your centre of gravity anywhere near as far as you would with stiffer skis.

i can nose butt my park twigs real easy. moving to my freeride skis i can barely get my tails to lift up and it hurts my shins.
