Ski lessons

My sisters friend asked me if i could give her two 12 year old daughters a 6 hour private lesson at deer valley and i don't know what i should charge them.

im 17 with no certification or anything

i don't ski at deer valley but with my snowbird season i'm should get a free day pass there so i wouldn't have to worry about paying for a lift ticket

i was thinking of charging about 250$ for the day do you think i'm shooting too high for not having any training myself?

That would be less than half what the resort would charge for a lesson but probably more than what the instructor would get. I wouldn't ask for more than $300. Also, have these kids skied before? If not that is long first lesson and could really bit everyone in the butt if they don't get off to a smooth start.

i'm not sure if they've skied before but i decided to charge 200$ per person + any cost for a lift ticket

~200/student sounds good. How much instructing experience do you have? For six hours make sure they get 1-2 evenly spaced breaks to eat, warm up, etc. If you're uncertified I'd hope they're first-timers because you'll probably run up against a wall in progression really quick if the already know parallel turns, etc.
Even I, with a level I, run out of things to teach with 4h intermediate lessons. My strategy then is to start getting them cozy with side hits before bringing them into the park. If they already know park, god help you and I hope you know more about moguls/steep n deep than me.

i don't really have any clue of how good they are but if they get the hang of it pretty quickly i'm just gonna ski with them with how i ski with my friends lol

but those are great tips i'll try and keep them in mind

Making money off friends or even friends of friends is almost always an absolutely terrible idea.

6 hours would usually be 600 for a resort price private lesson. But usually people get big discounts with their vacation package so its probably more like $3-400 resort price for most. Having no teaching experience I would say charge what you think your worth but probably less than an experienced instructor. Im an instructor and you can be a great skier but not be great at teaching and vice versa. especially when it comes to teaching the lowest levels it can be hard if you don't have some teaching tools and know where to start.

Just be forwarned: Resorts in PC do not take too kindly to people holding their own private lessons without it going through ski school, so if someone busts you, just say they're your nieces or whatever.

if its not an official business like in this case they can't do anything other than be annoying if they care that much.

If you're getting paid to teach a lesson it's legally theft of services and u just know they'll be an ass about it. Don't tell the kids you're getting paid.

Yeah you're right. I take it back. shouldn't really be a problem though if he says he's just teaching his friends daughters and doesn't mention pay

Hahahahaha I worked as a level 1 instructor so pretty much had new skiers and kids all day.

I would be be responsible for looking after 8 3-6 year olds and only got paid 15$ an hour.

250 is plenty

Pricey but I guess if you barely know the people who cares. If they don't learn anything your sisters friend is gonna be pissed tho. Tread lightly.

It's not illegal to teach friends and acquaintances but I could see how they'd be a bit mad if you were making a business out of it.

No it's not lmao. Choosing to not use an optional service is not theft of services. Show me a single case or statute where this happened or is listed.

250 for two of them?? At my hill that’s about 750$ not including lunch or possibly rental gear for two kids. As others have said u better hope they are just learning to ski cause without any training you will run out of stuff to teach them. So glad we have coaching clinics every morning at HV. Been working on getting my groups turns more parallel and down the fall line and some of the stuff they’ve been teaching actually helps

A two year old is going to last like an hour on the slopes and then want to have lunch, throw some snowballs, take a nap and pretend to be a dragon in the lodge. More of a daycare gig at that age
