3mania30 days in row... finally taking a day off. Didn't want to but my knees made the call. Looks like we're about to get pounded in NW CO. Better rest up... prob another 30 in a row before the next day off.
I honestly can't remember the last time I had a day out of boots
They mentioned on IG that it should be open soon a week or two ago. I know there is always uncertainty with breck parks but they still have it listed on the terrain status page:

The 2.0s I rode were complete noodles..... So no, the arv would definitely be stiffer

It feels like the entirety of the Wasatch BC skiing community likes to go out and put themselves into harms way with sketchy avalanche conditions to make it on the UAC or utavyobs Instagram feeds. You could also just simply read the forecasts and make a plan to ski stuff that's not a problem area. Or just go take resort laps. No need to be skiing the aspects and elevations forecasters are telling you to avoid unless you're prepared for a rescue or are somehow a god. Either way it looks scary back there this weekend so stay safe.

somehow got 2s on and switch 2s on back to a tall tube. Slowly getting swaps and sw or lip slides on flat bars or skinny tall tubes again. Biffed it today on a stupid switch 4 onto a box, slide out and then somehow cut my knee open! Later gapped over two snow fences a good 10-15 foot drop to near flat and my knees knocked a tooth loose and got a bloody nose and bruised cheek and eye. Gonna take a break from skiing for a day or two and just erg and lift until the knee heals up and face isn’t swollen or bruised!

I've heard friends say a black rose day is fine because if they *insert rationalization* it will be safe. I don't tour but I question their logic.

It's one of those things that's like "yeah you can in theory but should you?" Like you could probably get away with low angle meadow skipping. But it's wild to go on anything above 8-9k and trudge along ridge lines. I did my Rec 1 on and all-Red compass day (with guides) and that was puckering enough.
Call me a boomer or whatever but that new sleepy gill video had way too many tricks that I would not count as makes in it. There were some really sick shots but that backslap in the streets making the cut made me sick to my stomach haha

within the first hour a kid crashed and smoked his head on another kids snowboard and cut open his shi. blood everywhere, skied and told patrol, then dipped cuz i didn’t have a pass. so many kids all day. there was a 172 ft challenge rail that i didn’t complete, did some other tricks and poached the whole day. then went to culver’s and hit a street spot. fun day

Dude i hate the glorification of "sketch" in the Wasatch. Fuck the Chuting Gallery, the 50, the WURL and all that other BS that makes people feel like they need to do the dumbest, most dangerous things in the mountains just to stand out on instagram or check it off a list.
If you want to ski steep powder, go to Alta and stand in line. It's still less effort than touring. If you don't care about it being steep, just skin up guardsman and ski some 25° shit. If you like steep, but don't care about powder, just wait until spring for backcountry couloirs to actually be safe. If they were absurdly just in it for the skiing, they wouldn't be doing this perfomative dangerous shit.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with meadow skipping on low angle terrain on dangerous days. I agree. It feels like the scene back there is full of hardos who have something to prove and it's weird. Shit gets real when you have to go friends memorials.

I was thinking about the WURL once upon a time. A friend who had done it said "no offense, but you could die". I took that as a sign and never considered it again. Since then my risk tolerance overall has greatly decreased, not that it was ever high. People's risk tolerance out here is often horribly misguided. I think there's a belief that "those things happen to other people", which is true until it isn't.

many reasons, but one of the biggest reasons is that I can actually afford to buy a house here. The type of house that I'll be buying in the near future here would cost 2-3x as much in most of SLC/Denver/Oregon/Washington

People don't think about the fact that Search and Rescue teams have to also lay their lives on the line in order to do a rescue or do body recovery.
dognutzarrrhhggg i wanna ski but idk if i wanna get pissed off by all the holiday skiers and traffic
well just set your expectations before going. i make friends with everyone in the lift line or on the chair so i just make it a point to talk to people and then ski where i can avoid any collisions with noobz.
there obviously gonna be lift lines, moderate traffic, and inexperienced people everywhere so having low expectations means you cant be let down lol

I aint dragging flips in 2025 🙏, so tommorow i gotta send that backy and unlock the confidence to try my rodeo 5s, flat 3s, cork 7 and underflips.
I can do all those tricks in my sleep on the tramp with tramp skis+3kg ankle weights(basically the same weight of my skis+boots).
I gotta stop embarrassing myself when someone at the tramp facility asks me what i can do on skis. For some reason those extra 50 cm length and all the media make me think bringing the tricks to real skis is such a big deal.

I’m pretty ready to bounce outta nyc and head back to Denver. Can’t skate, can’t ski lately. Going crazy. Ready to embrace ski season. I’ve delayed it too much.

Fuck bro, i have never been so scared as when coming into the jump, i just stop. Maybe its too big and the landing is pure crud, but im terrified, never had that problem when doing anything on tramp.
Also not digging my shins into my boots when popping is scary asf. I feel like cork 7 is less scary 💀

the difference in how speed feels to me from skiing to mountain biking is pretty unreal. i was looking at my strava data and notice that on my decent from a skin that i was being casual on and mainly skiing switch with no helmet i hit 45 mph. biking when i fuckin charging a fast paced lift access black flow trail its only 30 mph and thats scary as fuck. pretty wild to think. idk if its because everything is groomed and the trails are fucking massive in comparison or if its my abilities in each discipline or what but it was pretty eye opening
