true 0-vis whiteout conditions give me motion sickness. My brain can't tell up from down. The faster I go, the worse it gets

zero vis is pretty intense in the alps, sometimes it's genuinely impossible to see the piste markers. i occasionally rawdog the slopes without goggles on just to see some semblance of texture and terrain change, because otherwise i'm going completely blind

haha dude yeah those piste markers completely saved me, I'm not used to having a knee-high wall of snow built up on the edge of the groomed pistes too so that was a fun impact

It’s like I’m living in that one South Park episode where they make fun of Prius drivers that smell their own farts and move to San Francisco.
I just don't like the severe God Complex or Very Important Syndrome some of them have at work. Mostly supervisors and managers. They think they can get away with ducking ropes and skiing closed terrain because they're the favorite department. Other than that, they some seem pretty chill or are just learning how to ski so I cant hate. I have a homie at work who teaches that's in his 70s and coached racing at Winter Park back in the day, smokes crazy amounts of weed, and is a funny ass dude

im not one to defend insta skiing, but i don't think he's forgettable. he def is a "dollar store candide", but i think he's more recognizable than the hundreds of clones i see that have a more newschoolers-ish style. (beanie, baggy pants, doing that switch landing where one of the poles points the other way and their arms are like bent and skis rlly close together lolll)

When I used to teach, I gravitated towards hanging out with other instructors that didn’t have that kind of god complex and would actively ask them to hot lap with me when we didn’t have lessons. The more I think about it, the more I realize that I hung out with way more snowboard instructors than ski instructors.
At the hill I used to work at, the snow sports instructors would ride from the top of the gondola down to the bottom in a torchlight parade before a huge fireworks ceremony, which my supervisor at the time made a big deal about not drinking before the event. The older instructors still brought flasks and shooters, but I rode up with the snowboard instructors and we absolutely reeked of weed in response.
oh fuck. Glad Ice coast isn't the only rainy place. It's actually dropping pretty cold this weekend. Perfect to do some ice skating down my local hill.
In my experience, the adult only instructors tended to take themselves a bit more seriously. Someone who their career path is adults only lessons? 99% chance they’re Insufferable (with outliers ofc)

took a big crash under the lift today catching my ski tip on a root off a jump, full on double eject and everything and now my ankle hurts a little. Could have been worse. Was at bird on little cloud today this afternoon near the top if anyone else was up there and saw me get bodied.
