TOAST.I get that but that lawsuit describes the dude just stopping and sinking in the snow. I don't understand what would cause that besides tree wells.
When it's deep and you fall and your skis are still on it can be super difficult to get back up. Pushing yourself up with your hands will just post hole the snow and your skis surface area can make them difficult to take off if you're in some fucked up upside down yoga position.
If anyone hasn't ripped deep pow and want to one day grab your poles in the middle in an 'X' configuration and use that to push yourself up if you fall, it helps a ton surprisingly
How do so many pros seem to ride with their face masks up inside their goggles?? Does that not just create instant fogging? I dont understand, I feel like if I pull up my mask to my nose at all my breath starts fogging up my lenses.

idk man I ride like that 100% of the time and it usually isn't a problem, tbf I wear a pretty thin mask tho so maybe that helps?
SchizoSkiermy binding ripped out of my kartel 108 in the backcountry today and I need new freeride skis by Thursday. Does anyone have any leads on where I can buy some 184 Reckoner 112s or sender free 110s for super cheap?
for the ikon partner days (u get free days at killington for ikon), can i just go up to the lift and scan w my ikon or do i need to go to the ticket window?
gnarly lookin slide off berthoud with a single track in from the top right. sent it to my boss who sent it to SAR who was enroute. imma start traveling with my beacon shovel probe 1 just in case and 2 my 2013 dodge dart has high centered in deep snow multiple times so having a shovel wouldnt be the worst thing lol
All-Female Rail Jam at work today. Really struck a chord and made me miss my lil group of 8-10 year old Devo Freestyle rippers when I was coaching. Honestly a lot more fun and less stressful than shithead 15-17 year old boys. They just wanna go take laps and drink hot chocolate and are chill af.

there was also an avalanche on gravel mountain near grand lake. busy day in the mountains for sure
I wish them the best but why did Sugar Bowl have to get cool only after I moved away. I remember when they stopped doing the Bonzai Run and there wasn’t even a terrain park for years. Shoutout all the homies that still work there tho
Sugar bowl was becoming cool right before I moved away in 2018???

For sure. Grand County Sled neck Rednecks gonna redneck though. High marking an obviously windloaded slope multiple times and surely the snowpack collapsed multiple times with multiple riders on the same slope at once plus people in run out zones.
Almost like CO has a great avalanche information center

Saw it posted that 2nd avy’s fatality was a local skater and river surfer. Dude was a schoolteacher and pow surfer. 50 y.o. Sad.

not calling you out but that mentality is part of the issue. ski tourers think sledders are reckless hicks, sledders think ski tourers are stuck up and clueless. not much conversation between the two besides beefing at the sno park. avalanche centers focus *heavily* on ski touring so classes and forecasts aren't as relevant to motorized users and the more remote areas they ride in. part of that is sledders thinking they're too good to submit observations but it sucks that professional forecasting pretty much ends 5 miles from the parking lot.
idk how it is in CO these days but NWAC is starting to work on outreach which i appreciate. but i've still only seen 1 forecaster on a sled and that was just a couple weeks ago.
BallClapperI might be cooked. Fried my skis, brought another set into the shop to get mounted and they don't want to. (two previous mounts and will be "too close together.") The ski is a sender free 110. What similar skis are there? I like it because you can ski it lazy and do silly butters but also boogie through shitty snow. Suspension is very good too. Thinking revolt 114 but that seems like a ski you need to be flying on all the time and has no chill. Was planning on picking up a sf100 for park/ skinny. Might not happen now. In Washington so can get away with a ~110 daily. Any help or advice would be appreciated. (I did try some on3p jeffery and did not like them, too soft and didn't track well in moguls/ chop. Was also way too short for me.) I do like a heavy ski 2200+
Probably tak the 106 ti or 112 over 116. Sounds like I can still mount the 110 if I use a different binding. Probably suck it up and use strive or sth.

Anyone who’s going out should be capable of making their own observations though. People shouldn’t rely on forecasting alone, sled or touring. Tragic situation
partyandBStheres also a missing guy on vail mountain for a week now which is likely a snow submersion as well. it was heavy on my mind today as i skied. i turned on the app tracker just so that if i was missing, my body could be recovered. i was also thinking about how shitty the ‘no friends on a powder day’ motto actually is from a safety standpoint.
Damn thats scary. Do they have that much snow currently? I never ski backcountry alone. I'll literally chat people up on the lift and ask if i can tag along.
