oldmanskiThis is truly sad. I know these areas quite well and know a few that work at them. I hope they manage to keep the lifts spinning and allow people to get out and ski.
GayWolf420Oh no, exposed hydrants (this drives the boomer East Coast patroller mad)

this one??
cyphersyeah this will be a fucking disaster if it goes through. i'm so over the liability culture in the US everything just absolutely has to be someone else's fault. might as well just ban downhill skiing since we can't mark every hazard and bubble wrap every tree
K-Dot.The article does sensationalize the whole situation though, it’s taking a lot of liberties supposing what might happen if another thing happens. Not saying it won’t happen but it’s just a speculative piece with a headline meant to alarm people into reading it more than it is a factual piece of journalism
I’m still of the belief that ski resorts should be nationalized and treated like a national park, not for profit so much more affordable and staffed and run in a way that respects and preserves the public land instead of turning it into another real estate racket. And it would allow smaller resorts to actually survive instead of closing because of their lack of profitability. The death of small resorts is very much in relation to the Vail Resorts of the world gaining more market dominance, it’s the same thing that Walmarts done to local grocery stores over the last two decades. Price out the competition by lowering prices to an unprofitable or hardly profitable level and wait for the smaller guys to fail because they can’t take on as much debt before going bust. I remember while working at Brighton how much the company emphasized modeling itself after Amazon (which employs this same business strategy), they would even have Jeff Bezos quotes sent out for managerial ‘motivation’

Farmville420This is only the case because nobody can actually afford to get injured in this country. It's not actually about preventing injuries its the fact that nobody can afford to get treatment since most surgeries and doctors visits will unironically send 95% of this country into poverty or homelessness

cyphersi'm referring to cases where a victim dies and their family sues for a quadrillion dollars
Farmville420I was just talking about the US as a whole, I know plenty of people who had to liquidate their 401ks because of medical issues where they couldn't sue and get their expenses covered.
Also those cases where someone dies and the family sues for millions usually don't hold up in court at all. Sometimes they do depending on the circumstance, a lot of the time its because the person who died was the primary earner in a family and without them the family is missing out on an entire income for the rest of their lives, and not everyone wants to re-marry just to make ends meet. There's definitely ambulance chasers out there but I think it's just super overblown and moreso about people who can't afford accidents getting in accidents
partyandBSas much as i love that idea, the national parks laid off 1,000 employees this week due to puppet master elon musk. public ski areas are notoriously under staffed and mismanaged. surely there are alternative options to what we have now but making them government entities in this political climate would be seen as excess fat to the government and surely among the first to be cut and possibly killing those areas all together.
rip all national park goers this summer. park hours will be cut, facilities shut down, maintenance foregone, etc. and it will decrease visitation long term this improving the argument to sell off the land so that the private sector can exploit it which i believe to be the end goal. elons bought out the trump administration and they are ready to privatize everything to get the rich richer.
3maniaI may be the first person who goes to Japan and gets less pow than at my home mountain.
GayWolf420The more people at work ask me "when are you gonna be cool and learn to tele?" The more turned off I am. Respect to skiing ability but no one gives a shit besides your fragile egos
realassboatCool but when will you learn to tele and be cool
