SlowbroI’m from Calgary and knew an olympic ski jumper and a luger(?) growing up. We have facilities and programs for both in the city so makes sense that some people would get into those sports. Idk how anyone in a city without those things would decide to get into them though.
It’s too bad both facilities at Winsport lost funding.
Ski jumping is one of those dying sports, if the athletes aren’t able to continue training, and funding is low, then they’ll struggle to allocate resources.
I don’t know the full story with the Canadian team, but it sounds like they sacrificed a lot to be able to train and compete in the Olympics. It makes for a great story, but it’s a shame that they have to do so much outside of Canada to be able to accomplish it.
get your shit together Calgary, we need new facilities everywhere
