Hi I'm pretty new to skiing and I can't land straight when I go out of the rails. I always land sideways and fall on my side how can I fix this and land straight??
At the end of the rail try and dig the heel of your forward foot into the rail (not too hard)
This will naturally spin your body forward (also good to learn for when you start doing 270's out of rails down the road).
As someone said above this is called "peddling" and you can see it below:
See how homies front foot is set at an angle? that's "peddling" and what you should try doing at the end of the rail.
Just try to point the toe of your boot up or digging your heel down while you ski slide, do this only on the front foot and it will spin you back forward with almost no effort.
Hope this helps a bit, just keep trying and eventually rails will start to click with you more as you get more comfortable on them.
I always keep my shoulders kinda staggered unless I’m spinning. That allows me to point forward and my hips to follow my shoulders when I feel my legs release from the rail.
This isn’t the best example of positioning but here’s an example of what I mean from years ago. Notice how front ski is slightly angled too. You can use that to kinda grip the rail and adjust your weight forward and back and you can use the front ski to feel when you release from the rail and use that to start twisting your hips forward.
You are too stressed about it and in your head. Try jerking off on the chairlift...it will help you relax and also make you look really cool even if you can't land off the rail
