ACL Injuries

Hey man, no acl injury here but I broke my ankle a couple years ago and my wife broke he leg. Injuries suck but they heal, just keep the long-term view and you’ll do fine. When you back in the snow just keep it fun. Good luck with your recovery

I tore my acl back a few years ago in mid February, I was back on snow by the next season but it took the whole summer of pt and strengthening and a good part of the season to get it feeling ‘normal’ again. It’s hard man but push through, put in the work and you’ll get back. Good luck!

I tore my ACL in the summer of 2016. Got surgery in Sept. It took me about a year to really feel like my knee was strong again. Did a lot of pt. My right leg is still smaller than my left.

I know it’s a super shitty thing and surgery can be scary and painful. Just try and keep your head up and hit the PT as soon as your doctor allows. The exercise and training will hopefully provide some motivation to get your body stronger for the next season.

I tore my ACL meniscus and kept skiing on it for a couple months after the incident because I didn't realize it was that bad. I then got surgery and the surgery is super tough for sure. I went back to ski the next year after a ton of physical therapy and still had complications to the point I couldn't walk for a month and couldn't ski obviously. I went and got an MRI but there was nothing wrong with my ACL and Meniscus and the doctor said these complications are uncommon but can happen. After about two year break from skiing I was able to come back and haven't had any issues but definitely still struggle with being afraid of having more complications and losing more time with the ski hill which makes me more scared to try things I used to

Tore ACL February 2020, surgery March 2020, was skiing again December 2020 after a shit ton of PT. Wasn't confident on skis again until March 2021. Spent another summer/fall in the gym, came into this season feeling fairly confident but I'm still scared on jumps (that's where I tore mine). The knee feels relatively normal but still not like it used to. Some days are better than others and it gets sore after a long day on the hill.

Just did 4 outta 5 days on hill last week for about 6 hours a day (by far the most I've skied in a short amount of time since injury) and felt surprisingly good after the week was over. Still a lot of work to be done getting stronger/more flexible going forward. If anything getting hurt has made me focus a lot more on my body which has been great.

You're probably looking at around 9 months till back at full strength physically and then a bit longer to skiing with full confidence. Do your pt like everyone else has said in the thread. Get strong and start slow and gradual with skiing

Everyone else is talking about how much strength training you have to do but I basically didn’t do any and I was back skiing in 9 months.

I tore my ACL in December a couple years back, had surgery the same week. Just went to a few physical therapy sessions every now and then, did some bodyweight exercises. As my knee started feeling better I started cycling a bunch. In October I was back skiing. My right leg definitely felt weaker but in a few months I didn’t really notice any difference when skiing anymore. Don’t do it like me but it’s not as bad as some make it seem, depends on person too.

Tore my ACL last season in January. Had the patella graft done as well. Was back skiing for the beginning of this season no problem. Be diligent with your rehab, it is the most important part of recovery for sure

Mattgeraghty3Yo! I tore my ACL a few weeks ago in a Freeride comp which is a bummer. Having surgery on it next week (patella tendon graft) and was looking for some stories as to how long it took people to get back onto snow? Any inspiration very much welcomed!

i tore my acl and meniscus in december and had surgery last friday. i went for quad graft to avoid all the complications that come with the patellar graft. might be worth asking your surgeon about. anyway surgery fucking sucks and you'll be in a lot more pain afterwards than you were when you initially injured but i had my first pt appointment today and it definitely felt good to get the knee moving again even if it was just small exercises. hopefully you were diligent with pre-hab because it will do you favors in the recovery stage. we have a long road ahead but take it day by day and you'll be fine
