Dumbest ski injury

What is the dumbest ski injury that you have had?

I'll go first, one time I was skiing in my yard with some homies sessioning some pvc. I decided that it would be smart to ski of my porch so the pvc was like a down rail. I ate it at the bottom of the rail and dislocated all my fingers in my left hand.

Compound fracture on my T12 vertebrae from bombing closed trail… so fucking stupid, makes my stomach turn thinking of how invincible I thought I was when I was 22.

like 4 seasons ago i had never successfully slid a rail before, had prolly only tried like 3-4 times on a tube, but one day out on the hill with my friends I drunkenly thought id grease a flat down, slipped out on the flat to down transition, landed right on the rail and dislocated my elbow. fully healed up at this point but elbow has never felt 100% the same as it did

Tried ducking under the rope to get into the park and clotheslined myself by my upper lip. No stitches or anything but very stupid of me lol

Followed my friend who was a foot shorter than me into a kicker, matched him turn for turn and was surprised when I sailed over the landing deep into the gucci plateau. Had enough air time to fully comprehend what i’d done and think about how much it was going to hurt my knee (which had no ACL at that point)
Landed on my feet but just crumpled on impact, full yard sale.
Picked myself up, was stoked to not have a sore knee but my shoulder felt funny.
Skied down to the table of the next kicker which my friend was waiting on having heard me swearing about how big I went, showed him my shoulder and I was close to a compound fracture of my collar bone. Once I looked I went light headed and I got told to sit the fuck down before I fell down.
Managed to avoid getting heli’d off (they love a trip in the helivac in Europe), got a sled down and a taxi to the hospital (despite their attempts to call me an ambulance) and that was my season ended with 2 weeks to go.

When I was 10 I went into the park at 9:00 a.m. when it was still super icy because I thought it would be less crowded. I went down and overshot a jump 15 feet straight to my back almost broke my back in the process.

Lucky i was small so I bounced back pretty quick afterward.

Last week I fractured my patella(kneecap) trying to lazily nollie onto a 4ft. flat box, proceeding to catch both tips like a total gaper and smash my knee on the very end of the box.

Its always the little things when you're not fully focused that get me lol

I was switch carving down an easy groomer and dropped a pole and the tip planted into the snow. The handle slammed into my left butt cheek and left a nasty welt and my buddies had a good laugh at me limping the rest of the day.

I was at the gym jumpin rope in between sets and I did a double skip jump and got too much air and got a lose knee from it.

I sent my first ever backflip and landed it, then I got all cocky and went for another one only to panic mid-air and untuck. Landed flat on my head luckily I was wearing a good helmet which def saved my ass. At this point my head was throbbing and I def had a mild concussion so I decided to keep skiing! The next day I hit my head again falling off a rail. Dont be like me, if you hit your head and see stars, just take a break.

Was at the top of the run barely sliding sideways while looking up hill talking to my friends before we actually dropped. I was talking and not paying attention and fixing my pole straps or something. Again, barely moving. Somehow one of my poles hit the snow right below my downhill ski and instantly stopped me.

Instant faceplant, broken nose, double black eye, actually spider cracked my Oakley A-Frame lenses that I was wearing. Didn't know lenses could do that but I guess those were structured enough to have that happen. My friends all had a great laugh until they realized how messed up I actually was haha.

To this day I still don't know how that much damage actually happened.

-On the lift going up
-see a snowboarder hitting the biggest jump in the park with way too much speed
-he overshoots the whole landing and snaps his board
-see he is ok, chuckle in disbelief that he snapped his board
-next run do a 180 on the same jump
-2017 volkl revolt says fuck this, bottom layer tears open from the tail on impact
-teared open ski catches and sends me flying down the landing, full yard sale

Last year - wasn't paying attention and hit a little kicker and caught an edge on landing. Fall wasn't anything dramatic or anything...no yard sale. Next day, could hardly walk, couldn't lift myself up on my right leg. After a week, my right foot went completely numb. Ended up being diagnosed with a herniated disc at L5/S1 and had to have spinal surgery to have the whole disc removed. In fairness, I think that the disc was already fucked up and the bad landing was just what caused the thing to push fully against the nerve bundle and totally gimp me

so I'm a skier and my brother snowboards we switched boots and I got a little to confident and started carving then I caught a back edge broke my ass so bad I couldn't walk for like a week without pain felt like Johnny sins busted a fat one down my cargo shoot the worst part was the no anal tonight jokes my friends made.

First run after downing an absurd amount of food in the resort caf. Felt super lazy and full but still wanted to nb3 over this corrugated tube but as I said, felt lazy. Ended up clipping my ski and got launched straight up and landed shoulder-first into solid ice. Sat up and heard hella crunching in my shoulder and knew instantly I broke my collarbone. Had zero feeling in my hand/arm for like 10 mins. Skied down to first aid and didn't have anything else on my mind other than how stupid that was. Super preventable but I learned a lot from that so maybe it's for good reason.

In bed recovering from my worst crash. Hit a roller over a steep drop at mach 5 this morning, threw a shiftie and landed on a patch of ice. Skis slid out in front of me, popped off and I took the heel piece of a griffon directly to the back at 90km/hr. The guilty ski had dug itself into the ice while my body was taken to the meat grinder over top of it. Took me ten minutes to stop squirming around and I wanted to slit my throat with my other ski edge to end the pain. No jokes, worst fall in nearly 40 years of skiing.

Dumbest? Had a bunch of beer in my chest pocket and fell on it weird and cracked a rib. So stupid!

Second dumbest? Coming off the top of the lift, was trying to show off and do a really laid out toe side shut down on my snowskate. Kinda like a one handed burpee. Pulled an ab muscle in the middle of it and looked like such an asshole instead!

Messed up the angle on a ledge drop and couldn't carve up in time to avoid the gully and crashed, sending my pivot heel piece from buckling right into my arm while barely missing the elbow joint. Happened on Sunday and it still aches though the fishing hole I made was funny. Glad I didn't mess up anything(including my JJs)

Did something similar going fwd. Carving to my right on groomed snow going, got careless and planted my left pole poorly. My left ski went over the basket just as I shifted my weight. Pole jackhammered into my rightside and broke a rib. Sat on the sidelines watching ski movies for ~5 weeks :(

landed switch off the last rail in the park, went to revert around to forward to ride to the lift... Boom edge catch shit whipped down.

thought i had just bruised some ribs or at worst broke one. went into the lodge to chill for a bit, got some food and started feeling better so went and cruised a couple more laps cause it was such a nice day.

wasnt even gonna go to the hospital because i was starting to feel better but took a pee when i got home and it was red/orange!

get to the hospital and told them what happened and was rushed into care faster than ever before (Canada,) faster then when i got my brothers teeth into the top of my head from a trampoline accident. They ran a few tests and did blood work and what not. within 5 minutes i was in a ambulance on my way to vancouver from whistler.

turns out i lacerated my kidney 5cm (2 inches) and was in the hospital for 6 days. was told 3 month till i can ski.

moral of the story... Never Revert

another time hitting street i was hitting this gnarly down flat double close out with a 10 foot drop off. i escaped death 3-4 times then laced it. i was hyped but immediately said i wanna do it again. dumbest decision... i wanted to trick it. i died, somehow no broken bones or problems that i know of... didnt go to the hospital and get checked out, but i was bruised and couldnt walk but was fine... i think.

Tore my left calf on a casual left nose butter 180 when riding to the park slope from the lift in late March last year.

Dumbest ski injury? Well, tore my right calf on a casual left nose butter 180 when riding to the park slope from the lift in late March this year.

363 days apart, in the very exact same spot on the slope. Two times in a fucking row doing the same stupid little trick in the beginning of the best part of the season.

Last year it cost me six weeks. Will hear the doc's MRI results based verdict later today.

3rd lap of the day was cruising down to the park, hit a side hit, tried taipan, went into screaming taipan, landed ACL gone PCL gone MCL gone medial meniscus gone, some other meniscus gone, Humerus shattered.

Haha bruh same exact thing happened to me this winter. Grade 4 laceration, they said about 2.5 inches so similar to yours.

Landed on a massive ass rock and knocked the wind out of myself pretty bad, was in some serious pain, but I knew something was up when it felt like an arrow was shot through the right side of me. Was super dizzy and almost passed out, got a ride to ER, they said it was pretty serious after a scan, so they had to rush me to an ICU where I spent the next 5 days at lol.

also wound up with a tiny pneumothorax (collapsed lung) but that thankfully healed itself within a few days. And a tiny fracture on my hip.


Did you experience any dizziness or serious ongoing pain after your slam? Kinda wild that you had that big of a laceration and went right back at it and took some more laps. I could barely move without excruciating pain, I was bitching at the top of my lungs when I was getting out of the car. Couldn’t imagine putting skis back on and taking more laps.

was definitely in pain, no dizziness from what i remember. like i said, started feeling better after chilling and some food, thought i just bruised some ribs. i was chilling super hard when i went back out just mellow tricks n shit.

Racing my friend through some trees and crossed a stream going so fast that when I hit the uphill part my back compressed really bad and had to wear a back brace.

Not skiing but my sailing coach in high school tore his achilles taking off a shoe and tore both acl’s at the same time running track. The guy was an insane big mountain skier but never really got hurt skiing.

Said dumbest so... I did up my lace liners up too tightly for a few days in a row and got eczema on my calves. Took weeks to heal

Slammed my finger in the car door at the mountain last week. Pretty sure it's broken but I just got a bandaid from patrol and skied without poles
