TLDR: road trips are epic l and student debt is super lame.
I took my first cross country road trip (east-west) last summer and it was one of the best experiences of my life; albeit pretty short lived. Sure, sleeping in a tent in sometimes obscure, sometimes wonderful places and having inconsistent or no access to modern amenities isn't for everybody. But I do think everyone could benefit from it.
I've just been really itching to get back on the road ever since that trip. My 9-5 office job feels more and more monotonous and life-sucking by the day. If I didn't go to college and accrue a ton of student debt, I think I would try bumming it out of a van indefinitely atm. I'm sure it would get old eventually, but for a time it just feels so freeing.
I guess maybe the main point of this is that working a regular 9-5 is totally not for me, and I don't think any of my coworkers enjoy it either. We are just spending most of our lives doing something we don't want to do because we need money for one reason or another. And for my main reason being student debt? Something I was pressured to sign myself up for at 18 when I really had no business making such decisions? Fuck that. I really hope student loans are forgiven in this country. After all, there is no doubt going to college is for the betterment of our society, and I do appreciate everything I learned. But, the current system education system in America is definitely just another money making machine (no surprise there) that preys on kids who don't know any better. And do I think my education was worth the debt? Fuck no. I guess I can justify it as a better decision than taking out a $50,000 truck loan upon high school graduation like some of the other kids in my class lol...
