DeebieSkeebiesYou should really enjoy the "fun" aspect of working with younger kids and I really mean that. Like yeah it gets super frustrating but working with older kids/teenagers is much more incredibly difficult. I personally have had some really fun days coaching younger athletes because they're just kids and are outside having fun on their skis, like some of us remember when we were their age, so it makes it easy sometimes.
I choose to work with them and all my other friends that work at HV tell me I’m crazy and working with the younger kids is awful. But it’s the highlight of some of my weeks. There’s somethings that get annoying like kids peeing themselves or being “cold” every other lift ride or hungry but it’s just minor inconveniences. The majority of it is great. It’s the best feeling ever to see a kids face light up making it to the bottom of a new run, or hitting their first box. They’ll tell you about their favorite super hero for hours on end, or tell you their mitts match their jacket 20 times and I wouldn’t trade it for the older kids. I’m not dealing with behavioral stuff or kids who never wanna ski. It’s always one more run or can we do that again. Cheesy as it sounds if I can keep these kids loving skiing as much as me, or help them love skiing more. I think I’ve done my job. Really hoping I’ll get to take over as the actual coach/instructor for my group once I’m old enough next year and since the instructor may be leaving.
