CatdickBojanglesBecause the NFL is literally the largest sports market and winter sports is a very tiny market.
How tho? You see maybe ONE back or front flip every 3 years or so. Nobody’s corked, athletes have minimal drip. They do one play and stop to walk around/cut to commercial every 15 seconds. XGames is kinda beat too but like god damn homie, put some respect on our shredders, especially when they go to the future
Sunday was the only day you were forced to watch on abc/espn, they used to do every event on TV and half the time they'd run the event during the commercials, Xgames coverage has been better than ever honestly, being able to watch an entire event for free on youtube, live or afterwards its pretty awesome, i would have loved that 10 years ago.

Facts, being able to watch on YouTube is huge for the sport and for the viewers.
SofaKingSickx games gets so much shit but they've gotten so much better and they're the only people who can manage to make our sport a big tv event every year
if you think they're going to manage that without advertising and talking about shit that normal people care about, well good luck
Nah they really have, I’m not mad at xgames. I’m just saying how much football coverage/ post game speculation bullshit do u really need? A lot apparently.
snowfinderdid you watch it on an iPhone? word is they are super techy.
The production of the broadcast is a whole different issue, the amount of content you can watch now is awesome, but I agree their product plugs have been really bad, but the only people to blame is disney's trash production staff.
This has been happening for years with ESPN, big D is slowly taking away every piece of authenticity from their production, click bait brand safe bullshit.
ESPN could do a much better job at not only producing their sports programming, but they need to do a better job at selling their advertising and avoiding cringe ass moments like the commentators saying 'WOW that was all shot on an iphone? amazing!" its so blatantly an advertisement and big D don't care, as long as the ad gets read. They are too lazy to come up with something creative and the lack of effort is apparent in all ESPN sports production.

It's not like its different than 5 years ago, or 10 years ago, etc. advertising has always been a part of action sports.
See my post for more shit about ESPN, but plenty of productions advertise without being so blatantly lazy and uncreative.
KilaTsunamiNah they really have, I’m not mad at xgames. I’m just saying how much football coverage/ post game speculation bullshit do u really need? A lot apparently.
yeah sports talk tv is pretty lame but football itself is dope, give it a chance if you haven't before
and look at it this way-- our weird niche sport's stars are being talked about in the same breath as the country's most popular sport!

Maybe you're unaware but the biggest football games get 10-30 million people to watch and that's just the live broadcast. The chance that millions of those people are watching after the game is over is very high, tons of people don't even change the channel until it goes to local news haha.
NFL anything does really well on TV and online, its an extremely popular sport and were in an era of endless content, people will take everything they can get.

i was saying more generally that the x games has gotten better. better announcers, seems like they've tried to change courses and events per feedback, stuff like that
i just consider the dumb product placement and ads a necessary evil (for lack of a less intense phrase) so i don't really think about it much. and you know more about that stuff than i do so no argument here

For sure, Tom brought it to a whole new level really, a familiar voice/face that is really good at calling tricks has been awesome. The course this year was pretty vanilla IMO, but the event was still good. The event as a whole runs like a well oiled machine and most of the time the course/pipe are perfect.

agreed on all points. tom's the man, i'm so happy for him and that he's an announcer. he's the tony romo of skiing commentary in my mind lol
CatdickBojanglesAre you talking about the weird 360 camera?
You mean the Verizon 5G Ultra Wideband camera!? Did you guys hear?!?!
Verizon provides fans with an immersive viewing experience via 180- and 360-degree cameras positioned throughout the Slopestyle, SuperPipe, and Big Air courses.
Within the app, fans are able to select among multiple live cameras and access immersive views exclusive to the app (now available to download on iOSand Android/Google Play stores).

Why are you acting like you've never been served an ad before?

Lmao every time I went to check the schedule I saw they were pushing the X-Games app with VR and AR "experiences". I guess MEGA-MO is dead now. RIP MEGA-MO.

Watching the knuckle huck there was a segment with Colby, then randomly like a minute Twall most likely being yelled at by the producers he didn't mention it was shot on an iPhone so he mentioned it. Seemed super random at the moment but made sense after realizing the sponsors didn't get their plug.

Who likes watching advertisements? Between YouTube and Xgames tag-teaming me, I have never had ads jammed down my throat to this extent.
Repetitive YouTube ads crammed into a clip then back to the competition and we’re getting iPhone and verizon plugs in the middle of a run. I hate that.

Anyone remember like 6 or 7 years ago when they showed 3 slopestyle runs, cut to the Halo E sports championship and cut back to be like "Jossi Wells wins!" without actually showing his run?

ESPN has gotten lazy and uncreative, they don't even care that their ads are so blatant because nobody can do anything about it, they're not gonna just stop watching. Productions used to be more creative and subtle with this stuff, but they definitely don't care anymore. Unapologetic advertising.
KilaTsunamiNot to mention the Jeep’s parked on the course lol
during the Women’s Slopestyle Finals they played a Jeep ad over Mathilde Gremauds run and just showed her in this Picture in Picture view.
It’s disrespectful. I don’t mind during qualifiers but to do this on finals is wrong, imagine if this was the run that got gold and this was how we were forced to watch it.

I didn’t see this! Literally made me laugh out loud. It’s like a parody except it’s real life…. They have her showed so small, Its mad hard to focus on her when they play the audio of the ad louder than the skiing… Truly a Jeep Follow Cam moment.

Like I said, unapologetic advertising, the bottom line is all that matters to big D.
eheathBasically anything but a Jeep lol but Jeep has supported xgames for a long time so I'm cool with it.
Edit: Cool with Jeep in general, not the way espn places and serves the advertisements

Yeah they’re not really the issue. They’re cool lookin’ and fit the “mountain vibe” but everyone I kno that had one sold it for something else with AWD.
Yeah I saw that even in the medal replays on youtube her fuckin run is smaller than the goddamn jeep ad. I bet her and her sponsors are pissed at that, too bad I doubt they have much pull with X games.

I keep picturing her whole family huddled around a TV anticipating her run to just see it muted and shoved off into the corner of the screen. Grandparents start crying, Uncle flips couch, dog dies..etc all because of Jeep.
