J Skis vs Bentchetler

Very average skier. Used to be a good snowboarder and switched over a couple seasons ago in my 30s.

90% cruising icy groomers around Wisconsin, with a trip out west every other year-ish.

Need to replace my old '08 K2 silencers (yikes) - They work but are like a 86mm waist, traditional full camber, only a 176 length, and getting beat up.

Was looking at the J Skis Vacation to play on and try to make the midwest more fun, plus a bit wider, but I think I'm kidding myself and will just continue to cruise, so leaning more in the direction of the J Skis Hotshot/Masterblaster or Bentchetler 100/110.

I'd like something around or over 100 underfoot for versatility out west when I make the occasional trip.

I'm 6'1" 198lb weightlifter, so I don't think I'm super worried about handling the wider width on hard snow (?) but definitely open to suggestions besides those listed.

I have no experience with bents however the durability and responsiveness is insane on my allplays so I would imagine those traits would carry over to their other skis

Jskis are usually pretty soft. The vacations are some of the softest skis on the market. Might not be the best for a bigger stronger guy you’d probably over power them pretty easily.

Yea I know the Vacation is super soft, that's why I was leaning back towards the Hot Shot if I went the J route.

Have you considered something like the ON3P Jeffrey 102? Strong ski but remains playful. Super durable. There is a reason it gets recommended so much on here.

I will keep my eye on those as well then. I was under the impression they were kind of hard to come by if you didn't order ASAP when they dropped pre-season.

No they aren’t really. This season is weird because of all the supply chain issues. The production run of 102s hasn’t even dropped yet. Plus you can always go custom for a little bit more.

I have no experience with the allplays but I’m on my second pair of bentchetlers they’re are a little stiff but still super playful and can definitely take a heavy backseat landing

How about Sir Francis Bacons for riding all over? I can get them in a 190 at least?

One of the best skis I ever demoed was the bent 120. It almost gave me too much confidence on the terrain I was quite used too.

You'd probably love the deathwish 104 honestly. You're a bigger guy and it's a little stiffer but really awesome for what you're after I bet.

I will take a look into Moment. I've heard of them but don't know anything about them.

Sir Francis Bacon is looking more intriguing if Line is more durable than they used to have a reputation of.

Might not buy anything until end of summer when new stuff comes out for 2023. See if there's anything that trips my trigger or if there's any last year models sitting around on sale.

After some searching I realize I might not get a single serious answer to this but:

How about the Sego Big Horn 106? Blister put them on their 1 ski quiver list and supposedly rip hard snow pretty well for a slightly wider ski?

I'm maybe down to the Bent 100 or Sego.

My big trip this year was to Grand Targhee. One of the trails is called "Big Horn" and I was wondering if the ski was named after it?

Anyway I saw probably 5 mountain employees skiing this years sego big horns. I haven't skied them, but apparently they have some cred beyond the BS.

Memes aside, it's a good ski. I'd ski a 106 or 114 every day out west without complaining if I had to.

GT is literally Sego's backyard. So not surprising that you will see them well repped there.

You have a bunch of fun skis to choose from. One thing you should sort out is your preferred mountpoint, and then if you like metal in a ski. This can help choose a ski that might fit what YOU want.

Starting to see some discounts roll in at a local shop. What do we think about these Armada options:

2022 ARV96 184cm $480
2022 EDollo 180cm (so 98mm) $560
2021 ARV106 188cm $400

I'd jump right on the old ARV106, but I think that's the first year they made it super stiff?

The Edollo is interesting too, but only 180cm and not sure if it would be a good balance of soft and sturdy or just too soft.

Moment wildcat 108 w griffons, 190cm though which would probably be fine but also quite an adjustment for you coming from shortskis

Old thread but,

Picked up a pair of 2023 UFO 105's and Attack 14's this season on a great deal.

Have only ridden them a couple times, but pretty fun skis.

I think they will be a good one ski quiver for the midwest and a trip out west for now.
