Probably moving there next year from VT, any suggestions on what mtn to ski at?

i see sunday river is about an hour and half away which to me seems pretty far. Shawnee is about an hour but ive never skiid there, is it legit? Do they even have a park? I usually go to bush so my standards are pretty high lol (relative to the east coast)

I skiied at Shawnee in like 2006. There was a park and it seemed like a big park scene there. It was icy and super busy and a douchebag ski patrol told me to slow down when I was skiing in the trees with no one else around. The way everything in the park was set up seemed terrifying at the time but they had a lot of features.

can't comment on shawnee havent been in ages, just make sure you get to saddleback at some point. it's still 3 hours from portland so it won't be your main place but the place is so sick

Over christmas break this season I skied sunday river 4 times, and shawnee once. I loved both. sunday river does have a sick park set up now, and shawnee is just super fun. Sunday is alot bigger of course but shawnee is still fun, Id reccomend both.

Shawnee is just groomers for the most part. They used to have an okay park but it has barely existed the past couple years. All of their features are super old. Sunday river is worth the drive, and it will always have stuff open even in a shitty snow year. They have insane snowmaking capabilities. You can also for the most part always avoid crowds.

As for Portland it's an awesome little city. There's a bunch of beaches near by and it's not too far from hiking and like 3.5 from Acadia National Park. If you're into kayaking check out Portland paddle and I'll hook you up with the friends and family discount.

Shawnee also got bought by the Boyne Resort Group (owns Sunday, Sugarloaf, and Loon) so it's v likely Sunday and Shawnee will be on the same pass next year and you wont even need to decide!

If you are into tree skiing and on a budget check out black mountain of Maine. Probs a little closer than the river. Extremely low key vibe, incredible tree skiing, really cool and interesting terrain.

shawnee peak is as ghetto as the come. So many good memories there but place is ghetto and their park fucking sucks. That being said night skiing there is the fucking shit and it’s close enough to portland it’s fun. They also got bought out by Boyne who owns sunday river and sugarloaf and loon so they’ll probably have a combined pass for that next year and i honestly bet boyne will make some upgrades to the park coz that shit is GHETTO af.

Sunday river is cool and worth the day trip over shawnee from portland every time.

For night park skiing lost valley is king. They've actually got a park crew that tries. Super small hill but I always have fun.

Just moved this past winter. Gotta hop on housing early af, selection is limited and prices are crazy. SR and Loon are closest then Loaf and Saddleback. Boyne purchased/is purchasing Shawnee and it could be lit if they add it to the lot.

Lost Valley mid week would be the move too.

City parks and rec dept throws some rails over at Payson park. All it needs is snowmaking and a few lights and could be very lit…literally

i grew up skiing at sunday river and it was pretty fun. Sugarloaf is worth the drive. Some other novelty hills were Mt abram which was fun when sunday river was crowded or wind fucked. I never tried camden snowbowl but skiing into the atlantic always seemed cool. I also had a friend that would rally to big squaw in way northern bumfuck maine because they would get dumped on frequently.

If you wanna ski park come to lost valley, its like 45min - 1 hour away from portland. it’s small af but our park is decent most of the year.

Grew up skiing at Sunday River and Rocking Chair was always solid but that was back in the early 2000's.

Don't discount Loon.

Check this out, looks like the city is expanding Dougherty park. There are a bunch of other cool skateparks in Maine so there's that.

Well, about that... we raised the money but the city refused to put it on their agenda last time I checked. Were getting a south Portland skatepark tho, just on the other side of the Casco Bay Bridge

Lived in Bath in 2018 and back then Shawnee had a park but it was pretty wack. Like one okay jump, that's about it. Sugarloaf is pretty sick and you aren't super far from the whites in NH if you want to ski some backcountry.
