The toe piece on shifts can sometimes pop off the front screw on extremely flexible skis but the heel should not just rip out.
I was skiing down a few moguls and the entire heel just ripped off and sent me and the ski into the trees. It looks like the mount is touching the previous holes, I told them to put it forward or back how ever much they needed to make it work but they said recommend was fine
this is super bad timing because I’m leaving for a trip next Friday and was planning to ride these.

Those holes are very close to the old plugs. Really not much wood gripping the threads there at all, I'd be inclined to say it's on the shop. I also don't have experience mounting this close to old holes so someone correct me if I'm wrong and it looks fine.

Thats 100% the shops fault any competent ski mounter should know u can’t mount skis like that. Ur almost better off screwing into the old holes than drilling halfway into a plugged hole. Thats dumb asf.

What is fair compensation for this? That was the 3rd mount, feel like they might be unhelpful
I’d like that to happen but 2013 jjs on their third mount aren’t exactly new skis so not sure how a shop is going to see it. Trying not to be a dick about it with the shop but I have to figure out a replacement before Thursday

I didn’t even see it at first they are so close but yes 110% the top screws are way too fucking close. Wow. They’re basically gripping half wood, half plastic. Def go in there and be like “hey. I’m not trying to be a jerk but I paid for a mount in the belief that you would remount my skis and I would be able to use these skis for the foreseeable future. This is not okay”. Maybe they’ll give you some older skis or something. Regardless, that’s really unsafe and negligent and they’re lucky you didn’t get hurt

They are the back screws but yeah probably around 1/4 of the screws threads were into the plastic. My leg is a little banged up but nothing to really worry about.
There's gotta be at least 5mm clearance between old holes and new holes. Can clearly see the front two holes are right on top of each other. Definitely would say it's the shops fault but I doubt you could convince them to accept responsibility for something like that.
I had this happen on a ski, but it was a newer ski and on its first mount. The shop got the ski manufacturer to send me new skis under warranty. I'm not sure if your issue is a result of too many mounts/too close together, or a bad core. Could water have gotten into the ski?

Pretty much all damage on the ski has been covered in epoxy and they are stored indoors, I don’t think water has got in but it looks like they didn’t even glue one screw in so maybe it for in through there? As far as I know as long as you don’t get too close to previous holes (like they did on mine) mounting a ski more than three times isn’t a problem and the three mount rule is a snow sports industrial complex conspiracy to get you to buy more skis

%100 shops fault but with the ski having a few previous mounts and being that old idk if they’ll give you a new ski but they probably should. they should at least give you a very steep discount on a new pair because they probably would’ve been usable for a while longer if they haven’t put those holes so close.

what kind of discount would be fair? I'm pretty much stuck buying new skis no matter what at this point
It actually should be 1cm clearance but I’m not one to split hairs. It’s a general rule to prevent pull out. Also, techs get sloppy and mistakes are made. I had to correct at home a mount I just got.

Damn, that’s mad unfortunate.. If I were you, I would bring them back in, be super kind and just play dumb. If you let them realize it’s their mistake all on their own and you might be compensated better than trying to point out how they fucked up.
ive also seen my friend lose his shit in the store over wrong binding mounts and get compensated fairly, it’s ur call lol

depending on ski shape etc and your consumer laws... new ski imho
what ski is it? some of the lighter core skis are horrible to mount if you use a clutch, there is soooo little from perfect, to a spinner
Update, shop owner tried to tell me this was two mounts (it’s not) and told me the only thing they would do is remount it for free by Thursday which is kinda bs imo, wouldn’t even admit the holes shouldn’t have ever been touching. Bought some used skis but I’m kinda pissed

All they could do for u was a free remount on the same skis they fucked up? That’s awful.. u can’t even mount them where u want anymore… I don’t like writing negative reviews for small businesses, but I think they might have earned this one.

I’m going to think about it, went and picked up the used 4frnt inthanes with two mounts and Salomon wardens I bought from them a bit ago, they said they threw in a tune up but I’m still not really happy about it. There’s absolutely no way the jjs can be re mounted a 4th time with shifts after they touched those holes together. I took them to rei because the techs there are cool and we got out the jigs and tried to line it up and it’s just not going to work. Pivots might fit maybe but honestly feeling pretty defeated and I don’t really have the energy to fuck with it

I will be taking the jjs back in to try and get a 4th mount when their ski tech gets back from vacation since the owner said it was only 2 mounts. Pretty sure quiver killers doesn’t do stuff for shifts but maybe I’ll put attacks or pivots on these if they actually mount them.

uhm.. why? you just need this shim and right screws
RudyGarmischJust ask the shop to Heli coil all 4 ripped out screws - better to keep the mount position and removing more core material on another drill
You can helicoil holes that are overlapping plugs?
Trying to give the shop a chance before I release the wrath of Newschoolers on them. Their tech wasn’t even there to look at it so I’m going to go one more time to try and get them mounted and see what happens
This sucks, and is the shop's fault, that said, given how long the heel track is on Shifts, you should be able to remount just your heels either forward, or back from where they were without bumping into those old holes. I would definitely get the new heel mount helicoiled though. The shop should do this for free at a bare minimum.
